Several times a week the Hope Lutheran office gets a phone call or visit from individuals and families to help find emergency shelter. How do you want your congregation, Hope Lutheran, to respond to this need? You want them to have shelter; you want them to have a support system that will move them into permanent housing. You want this for them because you know Jesus.Jesus practiced generosity and mercy throughout his life, and taught his followers to do the same. Most profoundly, Jesus demonstrated generosity and mercy in his death where you and I are forgiven our sins and promised heaven itself. Jesus’ followers are identified when they too practice

Filling a Need with Lenten Giving

During Lent we will practice generosity and mercy in a special offering on Wednesday, March 29 and Sunday, April 2. The purpose of the offering is to help support the emergency shelters for the homeless in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The special offering will support two local organizations. Working with our long-time mission partners, the New Life Center (NLC) and Churches United for the Homeless (CUFH) we will join them in their continuing call to serve the local homeless population. Their holy calling provides emergency shelter, and support into permanent housing. Our goal will be to raise $45,000 to help support the operation and capital improvements of the emergency shelters.By practicing mercy and generosity with NLC and CUFH, we are partnering with Jesus to help make heaven a bit more crowded, and bringing a living hope to people today.

Hope Launches Live Streaming of Worship ServicesIn February, Hope Lutheran launched our NEW Live Stream of the 6:00pm (CST) worship service at the South Campus. You can watch live or find the play-back on our website at fargohope.org/watch. Our new streaming service includes the following options:• You can worship in real-time online at 6:00pm

CST every Wednesday.• During Lent, worship with us LIVE on Sundays at

9:30am CST, too!• If you are unable to worship via the live feed, the

service is immediately archived so you can pull it up later in the day, week, or even the next month.

• Access the live stream on your computer, tablet or any mobile device with an internet connection.

• For those who just want to listen to the sermon audio or to hear the sermon again, a podcast is available at fargohope.org/listen or in the iTunes store.

We are offering Live Steam worship for a variety of reasons:• Snowbirds and lake people have expressed a desire

to stay connected to the worship life of their church.• Many people want to hear the sermon or a song

from the worship service again as well as share the sermon with a friend.

• Shut-ins and people convalescing at home from medical procedures will have direct access to Hope’s worship life.

• It serves as an outreach to a much wider audience, as we seek to encourage all people to know the love of Christ.

We need your help in getting the word out that this opportunity is available to meet the many needs of a busy and mobile culture. Try out the streaming service yourself and share it with a family member or friend. Worshipping God is at the center of who we are as followers of Christ and we are continuing to challenge ourselves to reach out in innovative ways as we join with God in his work in this world!

It isn’t hard to see the brokenness of this world, community, church or family. We see it on every media source and in conversation with family and friends. I’m struck by how deep this brokenness can go with physical problems and then extend to the economical, emotional and spiritual brokenness with loss of hope and joy. People who have fallen into despair can’t see a way out. At times it seems the problems escalate and there are too many brick walls which continue the spiral of hurt and pain on every level. The doubts are real, a bright future seems impossible and they’re stuck. Often there is bitterness and turmoil as they struggle with God and question his love and compassion. Where is he and why is he allowing this? Is he who he says he is?I’ve found comfort from Ezekiel 3:14 - “I am in bitterness and turmoil at times, but the LORD’S hold on me is strong!”“Humpty Dumpty had a great fall and all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty together again.” The rhyme says that the king’s men couldn’t fix Humpty Dumpty but our KING can. We have his promise in Joel 2:25 - “I will restore to you the years that the locusts have eaten.”“There is hope with Christ who can make all things new.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17Dear Lord, help those who have fallen and can’t get up, who feel broken and have lost their joy and hope. You are our Restorer and Redeemer. Help us hang on to your Truth and believe your promises. Thank you that you have a strong hold on us and you are able to restore us and bring us safely home. Amen.

The Season of Lent: SOUL CAREHow many times have you noticed the demands of our everyday, ordinary lives suck us dry? Even our souls seem to shrivel with the onslaught of competing voices. C.S. Lewis said, “You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.” During the Wednesdays in Lent we will seek to refresh and restore our souls. Beginning with Ash Wednesday on March 1, we will use the Psalms as a tool to bring renewed life and vitality to our souls. During the next 40 days on each Wednesday, let the words of various Psalms strengthen you as you seek to practice good soul care! Remember the promise: “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.” Psalm 23:2

During the remainder of the Wednesdays in Lent, worship will be at 6:00pm only.
