2016Accomplishments:
InJanuary(andagaininOctober)membersofourcarestaffreceivedsafetytraining,includingescapedrillsandblowdarttechnique.
OurMayMemberEvententicedover350friendsandsupporterstojoinusatthesanctuary,wheretheyenjoyedauctions,purchaseduniquemerchandiseandobservedtheincredibleprimateresidentsofthePRC.Fortunately,thisyeartherainheldoutforalmosttheentireevent!
InSeptember,weparticipatedintheNorthAmericanPrimateSanctuaryAlliance(NAPSA)WorkshopinTacoma,Washington.AsafoundingmemberofNAPSA,thePRCisveryinvolvedinNAPSA’sgrowth,developmentandaccomplishments.PRCstaffattendedtheeventandExecutiveDirectorAprilTruittwasafeaturedspeakeronanumberofpanelsaimedateducatingandunitingtheprimatesanctuarycommunity.
AssistantDirectorEileenDunningtonattendedtheCarnegieCenterEventPlanningclassinAugust,andtheKYNonprofitForuminNovember.InOctober,shewasinvitedtojointheInstitutionalAnimalCareandUseCommitteeatTransylvaniaUniversity,whereshewillbeabletoensurethatthePRC’sethicsregardinganimalwelfarearecarriedoutintothelocalcommunity.
Thissummerweperformedmedicalexamson15ofourmonkeys.Wearegratefultoourlong-timevetDr.DanBowling,assistedbyDr.WoodrowFriendofRood&Riddle,Dr.ElizabethHammondofLionCountrySafariinFlorida,andDr.HollyHaefeleofFossilRimWildlifeCenterinTexasforhelpinguscompletetheseimportantanddelicateproceduresflawlessly.

Onceagain,thePRCwasvotedaTopRatedNonprofitbyGreatNonprofits,aleadingcharitysearchtool.Awiderangeofreviewersgaveusscoresof100%andmentionedavarietyofuniquedetailsthatmakethePRCstandoutasanonprofit.

• RescuedGeorge,arhesusmacaquewhowasaconfiscatedpetinKentucky;• RescuedKatie,ajavamacaquewhowasanabusedpetinKentucky;• RescuedMolly,aspidermonkeywhowasaformerpetinColorado.Sadly,localcourtsorderedKatietobereturnedtoherformerownersafteronlytendaysatthePRC,despitehorrificandlingeringhealthproblemssheexhibitedduetoyearsofimpropertreatmentandneglect.ThePRCoftenworkscooperativelywithothersanctuarieswhenananimal’slong-termneedsarebestservedatasistersanctuary.MollyfoundalifetimehomeatJungleFriendsPrimateSanctuaryinGainesville,Florida.
PU B LIC EDU C AT I ON & O U TR EA CH : Oureducationalprogramsaredesignedtoencouragecompassionforallspecies,especiallyinchildren,andtoteachaboutprimatebehavior,exploitationandrehabilitation.Wehostathrivingvolunteerprogram,holdlecturesandworkshopsforstudentsofallages,andprovideinternshipsforuniversitystudentsfromacrossthecountryandoverseas.Ournewsletterisdesignedtoinformreadersaboutprimate-relatedissuesasdiverseasthelegalitiesofpetownershiporchimpanzeesocialbehavior,andoursocialmediapagesengageover6,200followers.
2016Accomplishments:
WeincreasedpublicawarenessoftheexoticanimaltradeandprimateresearchthroughinterviewswithTheDailyReveille,TheDodo,TheJessamineJournal,andWKYT,aswellasotheraffiliates.WecontinuedtobeactiveinworkingtohaltthedumpingofsurpluslaboratoryprimatesfromtheU.S.toanunaccreditedwildlifeparkintheU.K.Wecontinuetohosteducationallearningworkshopsandlectureatmanycommunityandeducationalevents.,includingoutreachatelementaryschools.Highlightsfrom2016involvedthestudentsfromEasternKentuckyUniversityvisitingtostudyandprepareenrichment.

SA N C TU A R Y S U PPO RT : Weprovidefunding,equipment,technicalsupportandconsultingservicestoprimatesanctuaries–nationallyandinternationally.Wesupportbothnationalandinternationalprimatesanctuarieswithmonetaryandin-kinddonations,informationsharingandasafoundingmemberoftheNorthAmericanPrimateSanctuaryAlliance.Donationshavesupportedorphanedchimpanzeesin12AfricannationsandSpain,aswellasprovidingcareforchimpanzeesretiredfrombiomedicalresearchlaboratoriesandrescuedmonkeysinCanadaandtheUnitedStates.
