Please read all instructions before beginning. Pre-washing recommended for hand dye only. Pre-washing NOT
recommended for other fabrics.
Yardages and Cutting WOF is 42" width of fabric from selvage edge to selvage edge. LOF is length of fabric, parallel to the selvage edges.
Remove as little fabric as possible when removing selvages and squaring strip ends. Label each ombre strip with the
letter given in the cutting step.
1 panel To All a Good Night • Trim to 28 1/2" x 42 1/2".
7/8 yard red hand dye • 5 strips 1" x WOF.
• 7 strips 2 1/4" x WOF for binding.
1 yard gray snowflake ombre • 2 strips 2" x LOF from the light edge; trim to
31 1/2". Label B.
• 4 strips 2" x remaining WOF; measuring from
the dark end, trim each to 32 1/2". Label G.
• 4 strips 2" x remaining LOF from the dark edge.
Label H.
• 4 strips 2" x remaining WOF; measuring from
the light end, trim each to 21 1/2". Label A.
2 yards blue snowflake ombre • 4 strips 3 1/2" x WOF; cut 1 1/2" off the light end
of each. Measuring from the light end, trim each
to 29 1/2". Label E.
• 2 strips 3 1/2" x remaining LOF from the light
edge. Trim each to 50 1/2". Label F.
• 2 strips 6 1/2" x remaining LOF from the dark
edge; trim each to 44 1/2". Label D.
• 4 strips 6 1/2" x remaining WOF; measuring from
the dark edge, trim each to 23". Label C.
4 yards of 42" backing fabric OR
4 3/4 yards of 42" directional backing • 2 strips 69" x WOF OR
• 2 strips 83" x WOF for directional backing
OR
2 yards wide backing fabric • 1 piece 69" x 83"
Batting • 1 piece 69" x 83"
Completing the Quilt Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching. Press seams as directed. Refer to the exploded quilt diagram as needed.
1. Stitch 2 gray A strips together on the dark ends to make a 2" x 42 1/2" A border. Press seam to 1 side. Repeat
to make a second A border.
2. Sew the A borders to the long sides of the panel. Press seams toward the borders. Stitch the gray B strips to
the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.
3. Stitch 2 blue C strips together on the light
ends to make a 6 1/2" x 45 1/2" C border. Press
seam to 1 side. Repeat to make a second C
border.
4. Repeat step 2 with the C borders and blue
D strips.
5. Sew the 1" x WOF red strips short ends
together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1
side. Cut into 2 strips each 57 1/2" and 44 1/2".
Stitch the longer strips to the sides of the quilt
center and the shorter strips to the top and bottom.
Press seams toward the strips.
6. Stitch the blue E strips together on the
dark ends to make a 3 1/2" x 58 1/2" E border.
Press seam to 1 side. Repeat to make a second E
border. Repeat step 2 with the E borders and blue
F strips.
7. Sew the gray G strips together on the
light ends to make a 2" x 64 1/2" G border. Press
seam to 1 side. Repeat to make a second G
border.
8. Stitch 2 gray H strips short ends together.
Press seam to 1 side. Trim to 53 1/2" to make an
H border. Repeat to make a second H border.
9. Sew the G borders to the sides of the quilt center and the H borders to the top and bottom to complete the
top. Press seams toward the borders.
10. If using 42" backing fabric, remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long
edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seams open. Trim to make the 69" x 83" backing piece.
11. Layer the quilt top with the backing and batting pieces. Quilt as desired. Trim batting and backing even with
the top.
12. Join the red hand-dye strips on the short ends with diagonal seams to make a long strip. Press seams in one
direction. Press the strip in half along the length with wrong sides together. Bind the quilt edges using your favorite
method to complete the quilt.
