Good luck to Sarah &

Laura who will be

participating in the

When raising mission fuel we

must work to build strong

relationships with our

supporters, our honored

hero’s, and LLS. The first great

care of a volunteer is to

ensure that your supporters

feel appreciated and

connected to LLS.

Mission Fuel Tip #1: A Thank

You goes a long way and pays

dividends.

Always thank your supporters

with a hand written thank you

card and a personalized

message. When crafting

your message be sure to

focus on the supporter and

not on the cause. This is

your time to personally

recognize them for their

support and show your

appreciation. However, be

sure to find a creative way

to connect your supporter

to our mission.

Try this! Purchase a large

bag of lifesaver hard

candies. Send each donor a

lifesaver candy with a

personalized message.

Dear John,

Thank you for being a

lifesaver. Your generous

donation means so much to

me, but even more to the

children, patients, and

families that rely on LLS for

help. Your contribution

inspires me and helps fuel

my determination to

Someday is Today: BCAM

On Tuesday, LLS representatives, along with other patient

advocacy groups, were invited to visit the NASDAQ MarketSite

in Times Square for the opening bell with Incyte Corporation, a

Wilmington, Delaware-based biopharmaceutical company

focused on the discovery, development and commercialization

of proprietary molecule drugs for oncology and inflammation.

The visit observed the start of blood cancer awareness month

and the launch of a community awareness program, Voices of

MPN, that aims to unite, connect and support people living with

MPNs (myeloproliferative neoplasms) – a defect in a patient’s

bone marrow that leads to over- or underproduction of various

blood cells. MPN Awareness Day is September 12, 2013.

Meet Kaleb!

Love for Lexi Fundraiser

Kaleb has been selected as

our honored hero for our

winter season group!

Kaleb’s parents are both

part of the Disney team

and eager to start

fundraising for the LLS!

“Kaleb is a cheerful, sweet,

and happy little boy. He is a

true source of strength for

us, as he has always just

understood what he has to

do with treatment and has

been so resilient. He took

on the challenge of “kicking

cancer’s butt” with open

arms, and he loves music,

sports, and video games. He

plays outside with his two

sisters regularly, and has just

been such a reminder to us

of how precious life is and

how amazing a child can be

to strengthen his entire

family. His siblings, parents,

grandparents, aunts, uncles

etc. all get such a warm and

powerful feeling from being

around Kaleb. He truly is a

courageous hero!”

The Capital Region group had the pleasure of meeting the grandparents of our honored hero, Lexi, at the Kick-Off/Send-Off this week. As some of you may know one of Lexi’s favorite places to go prior to

treatment was Pizza Hut in Saratoga Springs. During treatment she hasn’t been able to go and the staff sure does miss her! They are going to be hosting a fundraiser on Monday, September 16

th from 5-

8pm. 20% of sales from

eat in and take out will be donated to Lexi’s family. All you have to do is mention “Love for Lexi.” This is taking place at the Pizza Hut on 8 N Ballston, Saratoga Springs, NY location. If you’re in the area, support our adorable honored hero!
