Olfactory

• What is olfactory?– originates from Latin word olfactōrius– related to smelling sense

• What is olfactory interface?– interface that provide smell to the user

Olfactory technology

• Generate smell– includes device to vaporize smell

• high temperature to break odour molecules

• Deliver smell– includes device to deliver the smell to user

• emits small amount of odour for user to smell

Advantages...

• could reduce stress• increase information processing • enhance memorizing process• advanced visual and audio outputs• subconsciously change your mood

Disadvantages

• Difficulties making digitalized smell• Anosmia

– Absence of the sense of smell (as by damage to olfactory nasal tissue or the olfactory nerve or by obstruction of the nasal passages)
