ties Mitsui Home has a reputation of creators of dream homes.

The automation process of Mitsui HomeInvesting in an Opti-Kap 1002 optimizing

cross-cut saw from System TM, is part of an automation process of the production of Mitsui Home. The Opti-Kap 1002 solution optimizes on the lengths and quality of the workpieces with an extremely high cross-cutting accuracy. This way Mitsui Home will gain the highest uti-lization of the wood.

The workpieces will be transported through a manual crayon marking station where the operator will mark the workpieces according to the quality of the lumber. The workpieces are, after the marking station, automatically transported to a measuring unit before the saw that identifies the quality and lengths of

the workpieces.

After identification of the length and quality of the workpieces an optimizing computer will ensure maximum utilization of the workpieces before cross-cutting. The Opti-Kap 1002 opti-mizing cross-cut saw will cut the workpieces into the correct lengths and quality according to the demand of the current production or-der. After cross-cutting the workpieces are printed and sorted according to length and quality. This is done to ensure the correct lo-gistics according to the different orders of the subsequent production.

The Japanese marketJapan is for System TM a very exciting mar-

ket and we are very proud to have delivered yet another system solution. This automation solution ensures an easier production and op-timal utilization of the wood, together with a minimum use of staff resources.

in a new optimizing cross-cut line for your pro-duction facilities, you will be able to reduce the number of saws needed in your produc-tion. In some cases, it will be possible to reach the needed capacity with 1-2 saws instead of 2-3. With this solution, the return on invest-ment will be even better for our customers since the price of the saw remain the same.

Furthermore current customers now have the possibility to upgrade their existing li-nes with the version 2 of the Opti-Kap 5000 cross-cut saw. This way they will achieve an increase of their production capacity with up to 40%.

System TM’s upgrade of the existing Opti-Kap 5000 to a version 2 is therefore not only an advantage for potential new customers, but also for existing customers that now have a unique opportunity to increase their produc-tion capacity with minimum investment.

Integrated acceleration belt with driven fence - for quick and inline outfeed of workpieces.

Double side supported top and feeding rollers - for optimal lumber contact = best cutting accur-acy and capacity.

Extremely smooth saw blade stroke – for best kerfs to insure minimum tear and break outs.

Small distance between the top and feeding rol-lers - allowing cross cutting of small workpieces.

Further development of the op-timizing cross-cut saw model Opti-Kap 5000 has increased the capacity with up to 40%When System TM introduced the Opti-Kap 5000 optimizing crosscut saw, it consisted of an impressive power and an intelligent performance with maximum lumber utilization.

Director of Programmed Timber Supplies, Warwick Drysdale and System TM Sales Manager, Per Jensen

Programmed Timber SuppliesProgrammed Timber Supplies is a family

owned company located in Sydney, Australia. It is a timber processing, service and distribu-tion company that supplies bulk timber and timber components. Their customers include for example furniture manufacturers & im-porters, industrial manufacturers, packaging suppliers and wholesale timber distributors.

Increased growthIn 2009 Programmed Timber Supplies in-

vested in a line from System TM consisting of an optimizing cross-cut saw model Opti-Kap 4002 and two automated stacking systems model Opti-Stack 3000. The reason for this investment was a need for business expan-sion in order to meet the increased customer demands. A new manufacturing building was constructed and the line from System TM was part of the larger manufacturing capacity in the new building.

New investmentEarlier this year it was time for an upgrade

of part of the production in the new manufac-turing building. Programmed Timber Supplies

decided to take out two old saws and replace them with the new Optimizing cross-cut saw model Opti-Kap 5002 Version 2 from System TM.

At the beginning of the line two manual grading stations are located where the ope-rators have the opportunity to identify defects and eight different qualities per workpiece. After the grading stations the workpieces are transported to a single-piece feeding system. This feeding system automatically transports the workpieces through a measuring unit be-fore the saw that identifies the defects, quality and lengths of the workpieces. An optimizing computer will then ensure maximum utilization of the workpieces before cross-cutting. The optimizing cross-cut saw model Opti-Kap 5002 Version 2 cuts the workpieces into the correct lengths and quality according to the produc-tion demands with an impressive accuracy and speed.

After cross-cutting, the workpieces are prin-ted and sorted according to length and quality.

This is done to ensure the correct logistics ac-cording to the different orders of the subse-quent production.

The line has been designed so that it is

easy to add a scanner, one more saw and stacking systems in the future.

A very high production capacityEven though Programmed Timber Supplies

replaced two existing saws with only one op-timizing cross-cut saw model Opti-Kap 5002 Version 2 from System TM, they are still expe-riencing an increase in their production. Even though the speed has increased remarkably on this new Version 2 of the Opti-Kap 5002, the accuracy and the cut remains the same high standard. This enables Programmed Tim-ber Supplies to produce high standard com-ponents for their wide variety of customers. System TM has been very happy with the process and the productive co-operation with Programmed Timber Supplies over the last ye-ars, and hope this will continue many years from now.

Warwick Drysdale,Director,

Programmed Timber Supplies

“Programmed Timber Sup-plies established a good re-lationship with System TM a number of years ago when planning was underway for a new high speed optimi-zing cross-cut line. The suc-cessful installation of that line gave confidence for Programmed Timber Sup-plies to discuss the require-ments of an additional line. The experience and profes-sionalism of the System TM staff, especially from Sales Manager Per Jensen enab-led a design that fully met the needs of the growing business. “

Unbeatable capacity at Produits Matra Inc. in Canada After optimizing and expanding their production in 2010 Produits Matra Inc was this year ready to take the next step towards optimizing their production even further. The three optimizing cross-cut saws model Op-ti-Kap 5003 from System TM has had an upgrade and are now running with an unbeatable production capacity.

5

Produits Matra Inc. Founded by the two brothers Nicholas and

Jean-Francois Drouin, Produits Matra Inc., based in Quebec, specializes in finger joint engineering technologies, where they obtain a cost-effective solid wood of the highest grade. Produits Matra inc. is a high quality supplier of wood within the housing industry, supplying wood for both interior and exterior finishing.

Produits Matra inc. faced a great challenge rebuilding their factory after it burned down to the ground in 2010 and not only did they rebuild, they also chose to expand and op-timize their production, investing in a cross-cut line from System TM. When designing the cross-cut line, one of the focal points was efficiency optimization compared to the pre-vious line at Produits Matra Inc. This new line consists of an Opti-Feed 6000 infeed solution, moulder, a scanning unit, optimizing compu-ter and three optimizing cross-cut saws mo-del Opti-Kap 5003. This line is fully automatic

and ensures optimal utilization of the lumber, thus increasing the efficiency of the produc-tion. The line was designed to fit an additional fourth saw enabling Produits Matra Inc. to ex-pand their production even further.

New technology from System TM Meanwhile, through new technology and

product development, the Opti-Kap 5000 Ver-sion 2 with an increased capacity of up to 40% was developed. With this new technology the excellent quality and accuracy of the cut re-mains the same high standard. This techno-logy also allows current customers with opti-mizing cross-cut saws model Opti-Kap 5003 to get an upgrade instead of having to invest in a new additional saw. This was exactly what Produits Matra Inc. decided to do.

Upgrade of three optimizing cross-cut saws model Opti-Kap 5003

The upgrade of the three optimizing cross-cut saws has increased the speed per saw with 40% which means that the total increase of

the speed of the three saws is 120%. This increases the production capacity at Produits Matra Inc. with more than if they had invested in a fourth saw and they quality and accuracy of the cut is just as high. The production line still has a design that enables Produits Ma-tra inc. to add an additional fourth saw which makes it possible to expand their production even further in the future.

System TM and Produits Matra Inc. has had a great co-operation through the last years and the foundation for it to continue has been laid. System TM looks forward to follow the development of Produits Matra Inc. and the progress and expansion of their production.

Expansion of a line made Tar-kett invest in a material hand-ling solution from System TMAfter delivering a multiple cross-cut system to Tarkett in Hanaskog, Swe-den in the 1990’s, they have now decided to expand the line in order to fully utilize the full capacity of the saw line, hence adding extra equip-ment to the subsequent production.

Tarkett’s production facilities in Hanaskrog, Sweden

TarkettFounded in 1886 and with operations in

more than 100 countries, Tarkett is a world-wide leader in creating floor solutions for the home and professionals. Tarkett con-sists of 9,200 employees and manufacture and sell wood, laminate and vinyl floors. The company’s main focus is to provide an Ulti-mate Flooring Experience to their customers with floors that are easy to clean and ensure that they last longer in a good condition.

The multiple cross-cut lineIn the 1990’s System TM delivered a multi-

ple cross-cut line to Tarkett in Hanaskog. Tar-kett has been very satisfied with this system, which in all the years has lived up to all their expectations, and has been operating with a very high uptime. Because of the high per-formance of the excisting System TM multiple cross-cut line, Tarkett decided to close down another multiple cross-cut line and incorpo-rate the capacity of this into the saw line from System TM. The multiple cross-cut line cuts the core layer of the parquet flooring, before they are ripped into the size of the needed

workpiece dimensions for the flooring.

Designing an automatic feeding systemFrom the beginning, the saw line from

System TM was connected to a ripsaw line, and one of the challenges of incorporating the new capacity, was to create a feeding system automatically transporting the cut workpieces to the new ripsaw line. System TM designed the best solution for this, and was therefore chosen by Tarkett to provide the feeding so-lution. After adding the second ripsaw line to the multiple cross-cut system, the packs can be either automatically transported to a storage facility, to the existing, or to the new ripsaw line.

The feeding systemThe storage facility will receive or deliver

packs of workpieces to and from the line with the aim of retaining an optimal production flow. If needed it is also possible to pick up or supply packs from an external storage facility.

Packs going to the new ripsaw line are

automatically transported through a buffer

area into a turning device, which rotates the packs 90° to give the packs the correct posi-tion for the ripsaw. If needed, it is here also possible to pick up or supply packs, from an external storage facility. After the rotation, a pack lift will raise the packs to the de-stacking area. A feeding system model Opti-Feed 1000 Vack will, when needed, automatically pick up one layer at a time, and place the layers on a cross chain conveyor. From the cross chain conveyor, the layers will be singulated into workpieces, and fed one by one into a ripsaw line.

Secure handling of the workpiecesWhat is very important for Tarkett is secure

handling of the workpieces from the packs and to the ripsaw line, retaining a high uptime and capacity. System TM has designed the Opti-Feed 1000 Vack to gently handle packs of raw material, without losing any capacity. Further-more it is very important that the workpieces are fed very precisely into the ripsaw for a perfect straight cut, and the handling solution from System TM ensure just that.

High standards at TarkettTarkett has a very large technical organiza-

tion that sets very high standards and are very thoroughly when choosing their system sup-pliers. Because of this and the success Tarkett has today, System TM are very proud to have been selected once again, to deliver a hand-ling solution, and look forward to continue the ongoing relationship with Tarkett.

A&J Scott boosts their pro-duction capacity with System TM handling solution It is 13 years ago that System TM delivered an optimizing crosscut sy-stem to A&J Scott in England which increased their production capacity by 50%. The handling solution that A&J Scott recently invested in from System TM will ensure yet another capacity increase in their production.

A&J Stott LtdA&J Scott Ltd is a leading independent UK

home grown sawmill that supply sawn soft-wood timber for the outdoor and garden pro-ducts, fencing, landscaping DIY and pallet and packaging sectors. Established in 1960 the company now emplo-ys over 100 people. A&J Scott is family owned, and has a strong team of long term emplo-yees and together with this, a vast knowledge of timber and an experienced skill base, A&J Scott provides top quality products supported by a very high standard of service.

Investing in the futureA main focus at A&J Scott is to invest in

state of the art production facilities, to sup-port their ability to produce large volumes of consistently high quality products. To provide a massive boost to their production of feather-edge and thin fence boarding, A&J Scott inve-sted in a state of the art System TM handling system, with automatic in-feed to their Sten-ner MHS9 multi-head horizontal resaw and automatic stacking of the finished product.

The handling system from System TM The automatic handling system consists

of an automatic feeding system, model Opti-Feed 3000. The feeding system consists of a scissor lift that automatically positions the packs for the pushing unit. When needed, the pushing unit pushes one workpiece layer at a time onto a roller conveyor that is pneu-matically lowered for delivery of the layers to a feeding chain conveyor. The feeding chain conveyor automatically transports and singu-lates the workpieces to a slanted roller con-veyor. This ensures that the workpieces are transported securely along the fence into the Stenner 7 head horizontal resaw, that can split the incoming block into a maximum of 8 boards.

After the Stenner resaw, the split work-pieces are kept together as one piece, and transported by a roller conveyor to a turning device, that will elevate and turn the work-pieces 90°. During the turn, the workpieces will be stopped halfway in a vertical position, to allow the sawdust in between the pieces to fall out. After being turned, the workpieces are buffered into layers before the stacking area. The automatic stacking system consists of an Opti-Stack 3000 that stacks the layers into packs, before strapping and transport of

the packs, to the subsequent production.

This handling system enables A&J Scott to run a fully automatic feeding and stacking process, that optimizes both their staff and wood resources.

Supporting the expanding customer base

Previously the feeding and stacking to and from the saw was done manually, and with this new automatic handling solution from Sy-stem TM, A&J Scott stands to benefit from a significantly better utilization of the main ma-chine, than the previous manual solution. This allows it to supply additional volumes of high quality feather-edge boarding to the UK mar-ket, at an attractive pricing level.

So not only does the handling system op-timize on their staff resources, it also results in a massive capacity increase allowing A&J Scott to strengthen their product range of sawn material.
