More and more efforts and resources are being utilised to improve the teaching, and enhance the learning of the English language especially in Asia. Although it is not the native language of most of the Asian people, English is widely and extensively used in Asia. As a result, most of the teaching approaches in use are primarily western based. Though we have managed to put forward issues related to Asian perspectives on ELT during the three previous seminars, there is still much room for improvement or to further validate the voice of Asia. Much research on the teaching and learning of English has been conducted in the Asian context, however, we have yet to have clearly defined Asian perspectives on ELT. This conference aims to become a forum for the scholars and educators of Asia, as well as other parts of the world, to exchange views and experiences. It is hoped that the conference will contribute positively towards the development of an Asian perspective in the teaching and learning of the English language. Similar to other higher learning institutions in Asia, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is deeply concerned with the issues and opportunities in the internationalisation of education and with the implications and demands of English language education. We would, therefore, like to continue providing a forum, an international conference, TLEiA 4, for the exchange of ideas and views. Conference Objectives The objectives of this conference are: To share experiences and develop scholarship on English language education. To form smart educational partnerships in the teaching and learning of English. To establish collaboration in research on the teaching and learning of English. To establish a global network of scholars and managers of English language education in Asia.
