World Wide Web Allows documents to be connected to other

documents by hypertext links.WWW is most often called the Web, Net, Cyberspace The Web is network of computers all over the world. All computers in the Web can communicate with each other.No organization owns or controls the Internet.Web communication runs along a standard which is called HTTP – Hypertext Transfer Protocol

How does Internet works?Web information is stored in documents called

Web Page.Website is a collection of web pages linked or

organized together having a common goal and interrelated information.

Web pages are files stored on computers called Web Servers.

Computers reading the Web pages are called Web Clients.

Web clients view the pages with a program called Web Browsers.

How does Internet works?Users or Viewers submits request through URL –

address bar of the Web Browsers.Requests then run through the network (WWW)

and locates appropriate addresses.Finding the right address, server responses

instructions back to the requesters.These instructions are received and interpreted

by the Browsers called HTML.Finally, users able to read and understand web

information other resources.

Anatomy of a Web Addresshttp://www.domain.com/directory/index.htm

http://– Hypertext Transfer Protocol, which is the standard method used to

transport Web pages over the Internet.www.domain.com– This part of the address is called domain name. (URL) /directory– Subdirectory or subfolder within the website. (forward slash / ) /index.htm– This is the web document being accessed.

www - Prefix, the web (largest domain)lsi - Domain, unique name mapped to IP addressportal - Sub domain, partition with in the main

domain.edu - Suffix, indicates and classifies the website’s

purpose or contentph - Country code, indicates country.

IP Address VS Domain NameIP Address– Numerical address of server– Used by the Internet to locate and direct messages to

websites.– http://127.0.0.1/

Domain Name– Unique name mapped to IP Address– Maintained in a top-level (global) or country-level domain

registry.– http://localhost/

Overview of WebsiteA website may be the work of an

individual, a business or other organization and is typically dedicated to some particular topic or purpose. Any website can contain a hyperlink to any other website, so the distinction between individual sites, as perceived by the user, may sometimes be blurred.

Static WebsiteA static website, has content that is not

expected to change frequently and is manually maintained by some person or group using some type of editor software.

Dynamic WebsiteA dynamic website has frequently changing

information or interacts with the user from various methods such HTTP cookies or database. When the Web server receives a request for a given page, the page is automatically retrieved from storage by the software in response to the page request. A site can display the current state of a dialogue between users, monitor a changing situation, or provide information in some way personalized to the requirements of the individual user.
