For the facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE Agricultural Crop Production Grade 7/8 Self Learning Module

(SLM) on Farm Tools, Equipment and Preventive Maintenance

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both

from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping

the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming

their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent

learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help

learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their

needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of

the module:

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.

You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage

their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the

learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

2. Perform routine check-up and preventive maintenance.

What’s In

Conducting a pre-operational check-up of your farm tools and equipment is a

must. Although its time consuming, it will help farm works better. By conducting a

check-up, you will be able to detect defects and any broken parts of tools and

equipment. It will also ensure safety and prevent further damage.

Let’s try answering the following:

1. Can you enumerate farm tools? What are those?

2. Is it important to have enough knowledge on how to use the farm tools?

Why? or Why not?

` 3. How can a farm tool help the farmers?

4. How can you say that knowing the function of a farm tool is important?

11

What is It

In modern days, equipment are considered as part of human body in doing

various tasks. More specifically, farmers integrate technologies in farming. As time

passes by, a lot of studies and ideas occur to help farmers in terms of proper routines,

check-ups, and cleaning procedures to maintain their tools and equipment even after

using it.

Walk around the vehicle and

take note any wear or

damage to tires, hoses, forks,

attachments, chains, reels

and hold downs.

All mirrors and windows are

clean and not cracked to

provide the operator clear

visibility on all sides.

Test the responsiveness of the

steering and brakes by

moving the vehicle a short

distance.

Check the fluid levels including

the fuel before starting the

vehicle. Also check the coolant,

engine oil, hydraulic oil and

windshield wiper fluid.

Key Points to Remember in Conducting a

Pre-Operational Check-Up

Before operating any piece

of equipment, begin with a

visual look of the working

area. Make sure it is level

and clear of obstruction. 2

Put on the seatbelt and reach

all controls and see all

gauges and indicator lights.

Start the machine and

ensure that all gauges,

lights, flashes, horn and

windshield wipers are

operational.

Never permit riders on

tractors or other machinery.

Always stay aware of your

surrounding at all times.
