Page 2: Tips for managing class

The first few minutes, hours and days are the most important ones of the year.

Whatever you show your students the first few minutes, hours and days will make the difference the whole year. The same will happen with the things you allow them to do in class.

Help students to raise rules for the classroom. If they help they will own the rules.

Page 3: Tips for managing class

Rules are to be accomplished or followed, and that includes you!

Don't raise any rules for your class that you are not willing to follow through with. Be coherent, always be consistent and fair and let your students know that you mean what you say.

Don’t ever fight verbally with your students. You don’t need to shout to let everybody know that you are the authority in class. Authority is gained through the time by showing coherence. (do what you say)

You have to play leader not boss.

Boss are just to give orders but leader is to show example and do things with them.

Have a good balance of discipline and humor.

None extreme is good, but the correct balance makes an interesting and motivating class. You need to be yourself , find your class interesting, be creative, and enjoy overall enjoy the class.

It's not what you teach, but how you teach it that makes all the difference. When are students bored?, when they find nothing interesting in class.

It is not about knowledge, but HOW they get to the knowledge. If what you are doing in your classroom is exciting and motivational, classroom discipline problems disappear. Students do not want to get in trouble because they do not want to miss out on what is going on in your room.

Not every student will like you. And, you won't like every student.Try to find at least one thing you can respect each student for - even if it's just showing up at school.

Students love choices and challenges!

When they choose they feel part of, and when they are challenged they like and enjoy competing.
