DESCRIPTION One of my passions besides design is food. BOLD magazine
captures the bold flavors from every kind of food. Caution: You
might be hungry after you read it.
PROCESS My inspiration has come from browsing the magazine rack
at Barnes and Noble. After collecting ideas, I sketched some
layouts and looked for possible images. The magazine really
came together once I started fine-tuning the text and images.

2 Browne Trading Company, Portland, MaineThis old, family-run business has acquired some recent dazzle through its association with such celebrity chefs as Daniel Boulud of New York City’s Daniel restaurant.
3 Joe Patti’s Seafood Co., Pensacola, FloridaJoe Patti’s has changed with the times, adding delectable extras such as a sushi bar and Anna Patti’s Amangiari Gourmet Shop, plus online ordering and overnight shipping. Still, the huge selection of terrific seafood remains its primary appeal.
4 Lexington Market, Baltimore, MarylandSome call it the home of the world’s best crab cakes. At the risk of starting an argument, we’re inclined to agree. Lexington Market, like the rest of downtown Baltimore, has seen palmier days since its founding in 1782.

Now that New York’s Fulton Fish Market has moved from its longtime Manhattan home to a warehouselike building in the Bronx, Pike Place can claim undisputed status as the nation’s most colorful seafood market. It’s also the most fun.

Fast, Fresh, Fabulous... and That’s Just the Chef!
After penning two novels for adults that explore the intricacies of human relationships, Lawrence David turned his attention to books for younger readers, with much success. His books The Good Little Girl and Beetle Boy, are both tales of metamorphosis in which children adapt to their distracted parents. Miranda, the young protagonist of The Good Little Girl, cheerfully puts up with the strain induced by hav ing two work ing parents. She dutifully listens to her parents continually make promises of “ tomorrow,” but when they fa i l to produce the much-anticipated
“Saturday Family Waffle Breakfast,” enough i s enough , and Mir anda turns into her nasty alter ego, mean-and-green Lucretia. At first, Lucretia wrangles from Miranda everything she wants, but gets out of hand when she demands that Miranda’s mother stick pencils up her nose and sing “Polly Wolly Doodle.” Good-natured Miranda is ultimately able to take charge again and all seems well, until Lucretia rears her head one last time to remind the parents not to ignore Miranda. A Kirkus Reviews critic wrote that “Lucretia will appeal to every child who h a s
ever succumbed to vague parental procrastinations,” and a Publishers Weekly reviewer stated that “David … effectively depicts how disappointment upsets even the best-natured child.”
David readily admits that his second book for children, Beetle Boy, was inspired by Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis , which a Kirkus Reviews critic said “translates splendidly into a story for younger audiences.” Like the adult character in Kafka’s novel, second-grader Gregory Sampson wakes up one morning and realizes he has become an ››

MidSummer Night Wedding Invitation

DESCRIPTION Brittany is a friend of mine who had asked me to design her
wedding invitation. She wanted warm colors for her summer
outdoor wedding. I designed a whimsical and warm invitation
for her special occasion.
PROCESS I first used the pen tool to create each flower. I then placed
them varyingly across the card. I also made a gradient back-
ground with yellow and orange. Finally, I had a banner to
enhance the bride and groom’s name.

DESCRIPTION Mat Pica Pi is a Graphic Communication Social club serving
the department during social functions, and providing social
opportunities to students and faculties. I also collaborated with
John Quaresma and Alix Guyot to create the web site.
PROCESS I first sketched the logo and discussed it with the officers of Mat
Pica Pi. Then I used the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator to create
each letter. Finally, I colored them with cyan, magenta, yellow,
and black because those are the colors of Mat Pica Pi.

DESCRIPTION is a company that specializes in helping businesses get leads
and followers on twitter faster than ever before.
PROCESS Before creating the logo, I sat down with the owner of
TwitTrafficPro, Wandia Chiuri, to discuss how she wanted the
logo to look. She wanted the logo to catch people’s attention
when they viewed the web site. I took her ideas and expanded
on them. I chose to color ‘traffic’ differently than the rest of the
name so it is more legible.

DESCRIPTION The logo was entered through GrC 322, Advanced Typography
class.
PROCESS I first used the pen tool to create the lines that look like pages
from an open book. Then I tried to shape them like an eagle,
which seems to be a common likable mascot for businesses. The
color green seemed fitting with San Luis Obispo since it is a
commonly used color here.

paint for the leaves on the book cover. Charcoal for the

DESCRIPTION Afternoon Tea is a book I created by combining thirteen
famous short stories. These are my favorite short stories from
childhood, and I want others to enjoy them just as I had. I also
included a description of a tea that would go well with each
story.
PROCESS The text took over a month to perfect. The case binding also
took a couple tries to make it look like the end product.

DESCRIPTION Rethink Print Poster is for the 2011 Graph Expo theme contest.
I chose Rethink Print to represent the revolutionary thinking of
today.
PROCESS Ink can create texture and evoke emotions. I wanted to give the
poster a fun and exciting look. I first searched for textures and
ink splatters. From there it took a lot of refining to finish the
poster.
