fence that Pop and the older boys had made at the Fence Works.

This photo of our Mother showing her

making cottage cheese strudel really

brings back memories. Anna Siftar making

strudel on the kitchen table at 331

Austria.

This is Zell am Zee, I am by the see wall, in my class “A” winter uniform.

This is the first page of one of my first letters home

from Zell an Zee.

This is the second

page of the letter of

Oct.1, 1950.

Standards which was what they called the retraining school that all

new soldiers coming to Austria had to go thru. I was a part of the staff

so that is why the ending part has Detachment added.

I was lucky because I was assigned to staff there and did not have to go

thru the entire program and then be shipped out to some other

assignment.

I had not learned the addresse’s of Pop’s relative at this time so I was

asking for that information.

I was comparing the gardens in Zell to the gardens that Pop had at

home.

I tell about having gone to the church service that the Chaplin put on at

the school.

This is the second page of this letter and a PS note.

The note was being a big brother like Carl would

do, trying to get the younger children to do finish

their homework.

Since we had a lot of fruit trees at home and I

worked at Jaman’s orchard I was comparing the

fruit trees to the ones back home.

I was complaining that Phil was advancing in rank

faster than I was even though I was older and had

more service time.

1951 George Jaman visits Al in Zell!!! George

had been drafted and sent to Germany. He got

brook which ran next to the house and supplied pleasant sounds of running water.

1952.. Chickie and Al

went on a honeymoon

trip flying from Germany to Spain, Portugal, Algiers, Holy Land, Greece, Turkey,

Egypt, etc. This was the small plane that carried about 20 passengers plus three

crew members. It was a British company and the crew were very pleasant. This

a two story house with a full basement. There is a small front porch and sun room on the front of the house. The living
