The young couple has a son Carl.
1918 Ethel Siftar was born on Dec. 25th in Bethlehem, PA.; Janie Williams (Siftar) was born
in OK.
1919 Ethel Siftar died as a baby in Bethlehem, Pa.;
1920 William Siftar was born on May 27th in Bethlehem, PA.;
1922 William (Billy) Siftar died Feb.9 from convulsions in Bethlehem, PA.;
1925 Robert Siftar was born on May 21st in Bethlehem, PA.;
This is what 331 Hamilton looked like in the late 1900’s when Al was born. Carl is shown
next to Pop’s first car that he owned. You can see the shutters, front porch and wooden
picket fence.
1927 Edward Raymond Siftar was born on March 15th in
Bethlehem, PA.; Dorothy “ Dotti” Rajock (Siftar) born on

This is one of the earliest photos that I have of brother Ed.
He does not look like he is happy posing for the picture.
1929 Alfred Paul Siftar was born on Jan. 10th in Bethlehem, PA. ; Marilyn B. (Siftar) was born on
___.;
This photo of Al was taken when he was quite young. There was a ballpark near the family
home where teams from the Bethlehem Steel division would play each other. Al enjoyed going
to see these games. He still remembers the name of his favorite player, it was Amell. I am sure
that he was with an older brother when this photo was taken.
1930 Philip Gabriel Siftar was born on Oct. 26th in Bethlehem, PA.;
This is one of the earliest photos that I have of Philip. This photo shows Ed on the
left in the back row, with Al on the right, Jim is on the left in the front row with
Phil in the middle, and sister Millie on the right.
1932 James Richard Siftar was born on July 5th in Bethlehem, PA.;
1934 Mildred Ann Siftar was born on Mar. 2nd in Bethlehem, PA.;
1937 This photo of the Siftar tribe is a classic!!!!

Al with his fur lined jacket and hands in his pockets. Jim in the middle
and Phil also with hands in his pockets. I think that the car was Hank
Jamans first car.
1940 Nancy Jane Siftar was born on Jan. 17th in Bethlehem, PA. ; Carl Siftar & Mary Jane Williams were married on Oct.
12th;
1941 John Alan Siftar was born on Oct. 16th in Bethlehem, PA.;
This is John with his two older sisters in the front yard at 331 Hamilton Avenue.
You can see that the wooden picket fence has been replaced with the new iron
fence that Pop and the older boys had made at the Fence Works.

hundreds of times over the years.
1945 Frances “Chickie” Leslie graduated from
Northrup H.S.; Chick shown with her
graduating class. Northrop was an all girls
school at thia time.
1946 Alfred Siftar graduated from Bethlehem Vocational High School where he took
the Machinist training course.
1946 Alfred Siftar after returning from basic training in
field artiliry at Fort Knox, KY. He was then sent to Japan
where he spent the next year. He never learned all the
positions on the 105 team so he was assigned as the
driver of the two and a half ton truck which pulled the
105 howitzer.
This photo shows the headquarters of the Camp
McGill 1st Cavalry where he was stationed.
This is a photo of a Division MP outside headquarters at Camp Mc Gill. Al worked as
a company level MP and partroled the area from Camp Mc Gill to Kamakura, to
Yokuska where the Navy had a large Naval Base. Al was the driver, there’re were
also a Japanese Police officer and a Naval SP on the patrols.
1947 Gary Siftar was born in Tulsa, OK. to Carl and Mary Jane Siftar;

1948 Robert Siftar & Dorothy “Dotti” Helen Rajock were married on June 18th in Bethlehem, Pa.
1949 Frances “Chickie” Leslie graduated from Mills College in California.

1950 Alfred Siftar joined the Army for the second time. I was sent to Fort Dix in N.J. and then sent to Zell am Zee,
Austria.
This is Zell am Zee, I am by the see wall, in my class “A” winter uniform.

Standards which was what they called the retraining school that all
new soldiers coming to Austria had to go thru. I was a part of the staff
so that is why the ending part has Detachment added.
I was lucky because I was assigned to staff there and did not have to go
thru the entire program and then be shipped out to some other
assignment.
I had not learned the addresse’s of Pop’s relative at this time so I was
asking for that information.
I was comparing the gardens in Zell to the gardens that Pop had at
home.
I tell about having gone to the church service that the Chaplin put on at
the school.
This is the second page of this letter and a PS note.
The note was being a big brother like Carl would
do, trying to get the younger children to do finish
their homework.
Since we had a lot of fruit trees at home and I
worked at Jaman’s orchard I was comparing the
fruit trees to the ones back home.
I was complaining that Phil was advancing in rank
faster than I was even though I was older and had
more service time.
1951 George Jaman visits Al in Zell!!! George
had been drafted and sent to Germany. He got
a leave and visited Al in Zell am Zee.
1951 Al and his Mechanic take his jeep for a long road test!!! They are shown next to a glacier.
1951 Alfred Siftar was stationed in Zell am Zee Austria.; Frances “Chickie” Leslie was hired by USFA Special Services on
Sept.10 to start work on the 12th of Sept. she was stationed in Saalfelden, Austria; Beth Ann Siftar was born to Dotti &
Robert “Bob” Siftar on June 30th.
1952 Alfred Siftar was stationed at Camp Saalfelden where he met Chickie Leslie, fell in love and married her on Oct.16,
1952 Oct. 16 Alfred Siftar
married Frances Leslie. The
civil service was performed
in German by the
Bergermister of Saalfelden
and the second by the
Chaplin at Camp Saalfelden.
1952 Chickie lived in a large
apartment building. This
photo is of Al playing with
her dog Zita on the balcony
before they were married.
1952 The first apartment of the Siftar’s was named Villa Vogelsang and was just one
forth of a mile from Al’s office at Camp Saalfelden where he served as Post Sargent
Major. The family that owned the house lived downstairs and the Siftar’s had the
second floor. The heating for the apartment was supplied by a peat burning ceramic
space heater. The cooking was done on a two burner hot plate. There was a small
brook which ran next to the house and supplied pleasant sounds of running water.
1952.. Chickie and Al
went on a honeymoon
trip flying from Germany to Spain, Portugal, Algiers, Holy Land, Greece, Turkey,
Egypt, etc. This was the small plane that carried about 20 passengers plus three
crew members. It was a British company and the crew were very pleasant. This
next photo is of Chickie in Egypt where she took off across the desert with the
police officer.
1952 The first photo is of Al with his cousin Gizella and her
dog Bruno in Murick, AU., with Yugoslavia in the
background.
The second photo from 1952 shows Al, Gizella & Bruno
next to the stacks of wood drying at the Mureck wine
barrel factory.
1952 and 1953 find Chickie & Al taking trips to Nice, France. On the second trip we
hitched a ride from Paris with a young woman we met on the road.
I953 The Army sent The Siftars back to the United States. They came to Saalfelden
and carefully packed all of our posessions and sent them to Minneapolis, MN.
1953 This is the Army transport ship that Chickie and Al were shipped home on,
the U.S.N.G. Giger a very small transport ship.
1954 Sue Ellen Siftar born on May 3rd to Dotti & Bob Siftar.
This photo was taken by Pop’s
peach trees when Chickie and Al
visited Bethlehem for the first
time. Jim, Nancy & John were the only ones living at home with Mom &
Pop at the time. It was in the mid 1950’s.
1956 Oct.16th Suzanne “Suzy or Su bo” Siftar was born at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis,MN.; Married in
197_ in _ Massachusets;
Suzy was our first born and we were very proud and happy
parents. Little did we know what we were getting ourselves into.
Suzanne was a beautiful baby and I think we may have started to
spoil her on the first day. We were living in a second floor
apartment in a home near the University Of Minnesota where Al
was going to school. We had moved to Minnesota so that Chickie
could be close to her family.
1957 July Chickie & Al purchased their first home
at 4248 Crocker Ave for $14,500; Frances Jones
Siftar “Franny” was born at Abbott N.W. Hospital
on Oct.10th; Robert Siftar “Bobbie or Bob” born on
June 17th to Dotti & Bob Siftar;
This is what 4248 Crocker Avenue looked like at
the time when we moved in in 1957. It is located on the corner of Morningside Road & Crocker Anenue. It is of stucco
and brick construction with a few shrubs around the house. The garage doors fold out from both sides of the garage. It is
a two story house with a full basement. There is a small front porch and sun room on the front of the house. The living
room has a fireplace and small coat closet. Next comes the dining room with built in buffet. This leads into the kitchen
and the entry to the basement and the side door.

1958 Charles Wells Siftar “Chuck or Charlie or Chasbo” was born on Oct. 27th at
Abbott N. W. Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.;
1959 Barbara Jill Siftar born on May 10th to Dotti & Bob Siftar in
____;I am not sure which one of Bob & Dottie’s children this is
pictured with Dotti’s dad but I will place it here to hold the spot. If
I can get some help from others to identify some of the photos I
have I will make corrections.
1960 Paul De Laittre Siftar “Paul bo” was born on May 5th at Abbott Northwestern
Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.;
This is our little Paul, being held by his grandfather Charles Siftar, when we visited
Bethlehem.

This photo of Paul was from 1962 or 63. The children loved to play in
the sand by the beach in front of the old cabin. Franny is showing her
talent in packing sand in a bucket. She has gone on to develop many
more talents as she aged.
