Tim Staggers - Personal introduction for election to Los Osos Community Advisory Council

Twelve years ago, I was able to move to this wonderful community from the San Gabriel

valley east of Los Angeles. There I was involved in the politics of the communities where I

lived from the 1984 Presidential election campaign of Gary Hart to the 2004 Presidential election

campaign of Dennis Kucinich and on down to city council and state assembly elections. I had

been asked by both the RNC and Moveon.org to host house parties as I have always been able to

help people find a common ground for a dialogue. I was also a member of the Los Angeles

World Affairs Council.

Upon arriving here in Los Osos, it took a few years, but I got involved with People Helping

People, which allowed me to grow my circle of contacts. This got me involved with the South

Bay community center. I have served on its Board for the last few years. Upon becoming a

member of its Board, I wanted to attend as many functions that were held at the Community

center. This got me into contact with LOCAC, the CSD, and the Basin Management

meetings. Timing was opportune as one of the first LOCAC meetings then was heavily attended

as it concerned the McDonalds application. It showed that the community could be motivated to

be concerned about its welfare. However, since, I have not seen anywhere near the involvement

even though the issues are no less important and far reaching.

This being said, the most important role of an elected body is to find legitimacy. That is in the

number of people that it represents are involved in some way. This is the one main goal I will be

striving for if I am elected.

An addendum: When I was contacted to run for this board, district 3 did not have any

candidates as Steve Best was shown in district 2 and Sandra Sarrouf had not yet entered the

race. I will keep my name on the ballot to hopefully inspire more local involvement but I believe

that either of them would be able to accord more of their time than I would.

Thank you for your time reading this and let us do our utmost to help make our community the

most enjoyable place to live.
