Upon her employment in 2013, although she was not long in the company I was impressed by her skill and adaptability to immediately ‘get it’ as she seemed to effortlessly absorb our complex workflows, and she was even making useful suggestions on workflow changes within no time. Compared to previous colleagues over the years who worked before her on the same scientific journal, it was immediately obvious that she was a level above the quality of service offered to me before. Working with Tiffany, especially over these past 3-4 months, when we have had to work through several major journal problems, has confirmed to me that she is knowledgeable, flexible, diligent, and also very important to me, kind and helpful to out external authors and editors who rely on her to help them – although it is not really her main job, as it is supposed to be self-help process - which never works! After a couple of years of varying levels of journal manager support, I was so pleased to finally get a journal manager to work with who was as good, if not better, then a previous colleague of five years ago, who went on to manage another team. Tiffany goes the extra mile! Any company that is able to use the organizational and analytical skills of Tiffany will be very fortunate. Our loss will be someone else’s gain. I have no hesitation in recommending Tiffany Hicks as a great employee to have on your team. You should grab her whilst you can, before someone else does!” Anthony Newman, Senior Publisher, Biochemistry, Applied Biochemistry and Clinical Chemistry portfolio, Life Sciences Dept., Elsevier “By this letter I strongly recommend the application of Tiffany Hicks. I have worked with Tiffany since May 2016 on special content acquisition. All along she has proven to be an exceptionally talented managing editor, very hardworking and motivated. Even before she started in our team, Tiffany’s excellent reputation preceded her and it did not take long for everyone in our team to realize the valuable contribution she would bring to our team and our project. Tiffany has adapted extremely rapidly to the tasks at hand and the various personalities in our group. Her job was to ensure personalized communication with hundreds of authors at a time and she was able to assimilate her duties in a matter of days and instantly adapt to each personality with great professionalism and courtesy. She truly has a gift with people and that is crucial in our work. Her perseverance and her abilities to successfully connect with the authors and organize her time efficiently led to the success of the project beyond expectations. Tiffany has an extremely open mind which drives her to explore thoroughly all the aspects of the project and to see the big picture. Her team spirit, open-mindedness and her passion to do things more efficiently and better are highly appreciated and well known among her co-workers. She constantly demonstrates her curiosity and reasoning capabilities during our meetings. Tiffany will undoubtedly become an outstanding asset to your company. Given her strong background as managing editor at Elsevier, achieved through working on several different journals, and her motivation, I strongly hope that you will consider her application favorably.” Hélène Hodak, PhD, Scientific Editor, Journal of Molecular Biology

References “Tiffany joined Elsevier in February 2013 as a temporary employee. From day one she showed great enthusiasm for her role and becoming a contributing team member of Global Journal Production. Due to her strong work ethic, dependability, customer service attitude and department engagement, she was converted to a full-time employee in May 2013. Tiffany worked on several very complicated journals, with some very challenging EiC's. She was able to quickly master the journal nuances and form a solid working relationship with her editors and publishers. Even while a temporary employee, Tiffany regularly received accolades and kudos from both her internal and external partners. One thing I appreciated most about Tiffany, was her positive and supportive approach to not only her day to day task, but to the departments local and global strategies. One key strategy was continuous improvement using Lean Six Sigma methodology. Tiffany earned her L6S yellow belt and worked on project teams to define and measure ways for improvement. I would without hesitation recommend Tiffany to any employer looking for an employee who demonstrates leadership skills, quality work and team spirit. — Mindy Griffin, Site Director of Global Journal Production - GJP "Tiffany has worked with me as a Special Issue Managing Editor for a number of journals handling a large number of projects. Her interactions with scientific authors and editors are valued by them, and of course by me. She had a clear overview of what she was doing which was very important in handling many projects. She is one of the most skilled people I have ever worked with and besides this a very pleasant colleague who has a very clear and pleasant way of communicating. I would absolutely recommend Tiffany as a journal managing editor and any other position that requires a high amount of organization, communication, creativity and teamwork skills. " — Andy Deelen, Content Development Editor, Elsevier “I strongly recommend Tiffany Hicks for employment. I have known her, and our team has worked with Tiffany for the last three years. Both her professional and interpersonal skills have impressed me. She enthusiastically took on multiple content acquisitions tasks in publishing which have been quite labor intensive and require excellent communication skills with both external and internal stakeholders. Tiffany often has given thoughtful analysis on how to improve a process or situation. She is a detailed-oriented, friendly, high-energy individual who has a great attitude. Tiffany has been a very strong asset in our group and I believe any company would be lucky to have her.” — Denise Wells Scientific Editorial (Life Sciences) Manager at Elsevier “I have worked with Tiffany on a special content initiative for Journal of Molecular Biology with Elsevier. Tiffany was meticulous, organized, very professional and was always cheerful and enthusiastic, even in the even in the face of tight deadlines. An absolute pleasure to work with!” — Shazia Khan, PhD Scientific Editor / Scientist

References “I have worked with Tiffany over the last two years on several projects in the area of biomedical publishing. In these projects Tiffany was the managing journal editor and was in charge of coordinating solicitation of scientific research articles, interfacing with authors and coordinating publication schedules. In my 20 year career as a cell biologist I have literally worked with tens of managing editors. Tiffany is simply the best! She is diligent, conscientious, organized and, most importantly, gets things done. Not only is she effective, she does it with a smile and is a delight to work with and has strong interpersonal skills. While she now has extensive expertise in scientific publishing, Tiffany is ideally qualified for personnel and project management in any area. She will be an asset to any organization!” — Tom Misteli, Director, Center for Cancer Research at National Cancer Institute (NCI) "She is a wonderful journal manager. She loves what she does. I really enjoyed working with her as Editor of Methods journals. " — Hooman Sadri-Ardekani, Research Fellow at Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM), Wake Forest School of Medicine, Winston-Salem , N.C "Tiffany has an exceptional aptitude to learn new systems quickly, and her prompt replies to inquiries was commented on favorably by her editors and publishing directors. Tiffany generated daily reports to manage her assigned journals’ publication schedule, and her friendly attitude and willingness to learn new tasks was greatly appreciated by her team and her customers. " — Rajka Maria Lograsso, Journal Manager, Elsevier, managed Tiffany indirectly at Reed Elsevier “I have worked with Tiffany on one of the special issues for Elsevier. I can attest first hand that it was one of the most pleasant experiences in my entire scientific publishing career. Tiffany was extremely efficient, detail-oriented and capable of managing a large number of unruly scientists with their requests, demands, etc. in a polite but highly efficient manner. Starting from record keeping to communication to organizing clear time-lines from inception to the final product, Tiffany had shown real talents combined with ability to devote her time and best effort to every single task. I highly recommend her for managerial roles and project management.” — Sergei Noskov, Associate Director, Centre for Molecular Simulation at University of Calgary “Tiffany was journal Manager at Reed Elsevier during the time I was guest editor for the first time. It was a steep learning curve for me but thanks to Tiffany's help and in particular her administrative skills I was able to produce my first guest edited edition of Methods. Throughout the time I was guest editor Tiffany did an excellent job in the project management, making sure that deadlines were met (no mean task when dealing with academics) and that the publication was of a high standard.” — Stephen Muench, Senior research fellow at University of Leeds "Tiffany is an absolute joy to work with. She is always dependable, and you can count on her to never miss a deadline. She's also wonderfully communicative, and easily reachable at any time. I would highly recommend her for any project." — Barbara Richmond, Owner, Studio B Graphic Design

References “I have known Tiffany since 2014. We worked together during the transition of the Managing Editor responsibilities for the Elsevier journal "Methods" to her capable hands. The role involved managing numerous special issue projects concurrently. This role required high organisation skills, sensitive communication with journal editors, authors and reviewers, an in-depth knowledge of the editorial system. Tiffany showed a willingness to learn and a high degree of professionalism. I would recommend her for any role requiring similar skills, in the media or other field.“ — Anne Ruimy, Publishing consultant at Elsevier “I recently worked with Tiffany on putting together a special issue for Elsevier Methods, and her work with me and my author team was nothing short of outstanding. I have been an independent investigator at a medical school for over 25 years and have past experience as an Editor of the JBC and as a current Editor for Nature Scientific Reports. Any journal or publishing house would be very lucky to have Tiffany's talents as part of their Editorial staff. She is first rate!” — Christopher Francklyn, Professor at University of Vermont “I worked with Tiffany, in my capacity as editor for 'Methods' (published by Elsevier). She was really helpful, ironing out any problems that I had, helping me to deal with reviews easily, filling in when other members of the team were unavailable, and she was very prompt to answer any queries I had. I recommend her very highly.” — Michelle Peckham, Professor of Cell Biology at University of Leeds “I worked alongside Tiffany in 2014 at Reed Elsevier.
