With its mix of historic architecture and modern landmarks, a culture infused with Cuban and Spanish flavors, vibrant business districts, and beautiful waterways, Tampa is a wonderful place to work, play and unwind. It’s the third largest city in the state of Florida – right after Miami and Orlando – with its own cruise and cargo port, and the Tampa International Airport offers non-stop flights to more than 90 destinations throughout North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe.
From historic Ybor City to elegant Hyde Park, Tampa is overflowing with culture, excitement and adventure. Every year, millions of visitors fly, drive or cruise here to try the rollercoasters and waterslides at Busch Gardens and Adventure Island, watch professional baseball, soccer, American football and hockey games, and experience the thrill of the Gasparilla Pirate Festival, which features a “real” pirate invasion! The destination’s popularity is spreading far and wide as residents and tourists discover more of its fascinating arts and culture, lively nightlife, innovative restaurants, and outdoor adventures.
To support its growing population and strong job economy, Tampa is continuing to invest in the city’s livability and walkability. Green spaces and walkways such as Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Tampa Riverwalk and Bayshore Boulevard invite visitors and locals to get outside and enjoy Tampa’s warm, sunny weather all year long. State-of-the-art conference and entertainment centers – including the Tampa Convention Center, David A. Straz Performing Arts Center and Amalie Arena – bring a steady stream of people into the downtown business districts. Tampa has even reinvented some of its former industrial areas with projects such as the Armature Works food hall, co-working and event space, and the Sparkman Wharf dining district.
UNIVERSITIESTampa is home to two major universities: the University of Tampa and the University of South Florida.
The University of Tampa (UT) is a private institution located beside the Hillsborough River in Downtown Tampa. Students at UT can choose from more than 200 degree programs and the silver minarets of historic Plant Hall have become a symbol of the city.
University of South Florida (USF) is a public institution in north Tampa. USF is the fourth-largest public university in the state of Florida and offers 80+ undergraduate majors and 130+ graduate, specialist and doctoral-level degree programs. In recent years, USF has established itself as one of the top 50 elite research universities in the United States.
IN THE AREATampa is also located less than 30-35 minutes away from the cities of St. Petersburg and Clearwater, which are home to popular sites like The Dalí Museum and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, as well as some of the USA’s most beautiful beaches. Locals enjoy year-round access to the white sands and sparkling blue waters of Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, and aquatic activities such as boating, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) are very popular.
Additionally, its central location on the west coast of Florida puts Tampa within driving distance of the Sunshine State’s other popular cities and theme parks. In fact, Orlando’s world-famous Walt Disney World Resort is less than 70 miles west of Tampa on the I-275 highway! Floridian destinations such as Miami and Key West can also be accessed by car or through direct flights from Tampa International Airport.
