WHAT IS AMBER EXACTLY?Amber is the fossilized resin of trees from ancient pine for-ests, which existed more than 30 million years ago. When a tree became damaged, the resin seeped out from the ‘wound’ in the tree and quickly hardened. This is how the characteristic drop shapes of amber were formed. As the res-in is very sticky, various insects got caught in it, and the resin ended up on the forest floor when the tree eventually died.

The ability to preserve insects and plants is one of the most fascinating aspects of amber. The irregularities and inclu-sions only make the pieces even more rare and valuable. The Copenhagen Amber Museum holds a wide selection of entombed insects from prehistoric times such as mosqui-toes, spiders, flies, beetles and cockroaches. Stelling Papir & Penne is the successor to the first and oldest stationer’s shop in Copenhagen, housed in the premises at Nikolaj Plads, originally belonging to Johan Christian Peter- sen and founded in 1845. The building is called “Hvælvin-gen” (the vault) and is owned by the trust fund Louis Petersen’s Legat, which still enforces the purpose, which is to conduct securities trading in the premises at Nikolaj Plads. It’s worth paying a visit to see the store, as it is one of Copenhagen’s oldest and most beautiful stores.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHOPIN COPENHAGEN - AND WHY?My favourite shop in Copenhagen is located at Østerbro-gade 154 called Elviro by Cordelia. I do like to get a good service, as I work in the same business area. The owner has a good sense of humor, a nice personality and she is very helpful. She makes sure that I buy the “right clothing and shoes” which suits me well. I believe it is very important to treat customers as your friend, and listen to understand their needs and wishes.

DO YOU HAVE A SECRET TIP CONCERNINGCOPENHAGEN TO OUR READERS?When I moved to Copenhagen, I discovered some small shops on side streets where they offer exciting items. From small local shops I think you should buy some special and unique presents for your closests ones, instead buying “nor-mal” presents from big souvenir shops.
