SHOW 1: 10/20 BLU Jazz+, 10/21 Ohio Theatre at Playhouse SquareDreams from 1968The CJO will commemorate the music and times of this pivotal year in American history. Selections for this season’s opening concert will be culled from Oliver Nelson’s “The Kennedy Dream,” Herbie Hancock’s “I Have A Dream,” Maynard Ferguson’s “MacArthur Park.” More of the story of 1968 will unfold when the CJO is joined onstage by a gospel choir led by Johnny Parker.

SHOW 2: 12/7 BLU Jazz+, 12/8 Hanna Theatre at Playhouse SquareThe Holidays with Helen! Featuring Helen Welch, vocalsOur annual Christmas shows will feature the always charming and charismatic vocalist Helen Welch. It’s always a gift when the CJO and Helen take the stage together. Our Holiday shows are a real favorite with attendees of all ages. Join us to celebrate the season!

SHOW 3: 1/19 Hanna Theatre at Playhouse Square1/20 Temple Tifereth Israel Cole Porter on Broadway! Featuring Vince Mastro and Treva Offutt, vocalsThe music and magic of Cole Porter will be highlighted in this fourth collaboration between the CJO and The Musical Theater Project. These evenings will cover Porter’s Broadway musicals—and equally colorful life—from the late 1920s through the mid-1950s, and the hits roll on: “Let’s Do It,” “Begin the Beguine,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “So in Love” Buy early—these shows sold out quickly last year!

SHOW 4: 2/15, Ohio Theatre at Playhouse Square 2/16 BLU Jazz+Cupid in the CLE! Featuring Jiggs Whigham, trombone and Evelyn Wright, vocalsOur annual Valentine’s Day shows are among our most popular every year. This year we’re pairing the incomparable trombonist Jiggs Whigham with beloved CJO vocalist Evelyn Wright. Jiggs has had an incredible career starting at age 17 with Glenn Miller, time with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, countless recordings and positions as a leader, performer and professor in Germany. And of course, no one can render a ballad and also swing as hard as Evelyn. The best date night in Cleveland!

SHOW 5: 5/17, BLU Jazz+, 5/18 Ohio Theatre at Playhouse SquareBern, Bern, Bern! Featuring Bernie Dresel, drumsFollowing and expanding on the great lineage of jazz big band drumming, Bernie currently leads The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel. The former drummer for Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band and The Brian Setzer Orchestra also has hundreds of tv and movie credits. Bernie has been heard with everyone from Maynard Ferguson to Ringo Starr to James Brown to Frank Sinatra. This concert will feature Bernie’s high octane playing and music from his recordings.
