    Upgrading TIBCO BusinessEvents

    Standard Upgrade Procedures

Software from TIBCO uses three nu mbers to ind icate w hether the release is major,

minor or a patch. For examp le, 5.0.0 ind icates a ma jor release, 5.4.0 indicates a

minor release and 5.3.3 indicates a service pack release. The installer for a service pack release performs an au tomat ic up grad e. For

example, the installer wou ld a utom atically up grad e TIBCO BusinessEvents 5.3.0

to 5.3.1 by overwriting the conten ts of the 5.3 d irectory.

If you are upgrading TIBCO BusinessEvents to a new major or m inor version, it is

strongly recomm ended that you u ninstall the earlier version of the prod uct first

and perform a fresh installation (full prod uct installers only).

    Installing Over the Same Version

Note th at if you are reinstalling over the sam e version, if any files are curren tly

locked (that is, in use), the installer marks the file for d eletion in the install

location. After installation if the installer prom pts you to reboot your system, you

mu st reboot before using the software.

    Installation Overview

TIBCO Environment and Default Installation Directory

The installer promp ts you to specify the environm ent (TIBCO_HOME) where you

want to install TIBCO BusinessEvents. Each TIBCO environm ent is isolated . You

can install the sam e software into d ifferent environ men ts safely, for examp le, for

test, QA, and staging purp oses. You can install mu ltiple TIBCO prod ucts into the

    same environment.

An environm ent has a nam e and a d irectory on d isk. The directory is the rootdirectory for all TIBCO prod ucts you w ant to install into this environment.

    Microsoft Windows

The default installation location is the TIBCO_HOMEwh ere all TIBCO produ cts areinstalled. Typically, TIBCO_HOMEis c:\tibco .

The Start m enu path to the executable files includ es the environm ent as follows:

    Start > TIBCO > TIBCO_HOME> TIBCO BusinessEvents 5.0

The name is also app end ed to the name of Window s services created by the

    installer.

    UNIX

The default installation directory dep ends on who performs the installation:

For root users, the default installation directory is /opt/tibco .

For non-root users, the default installation directory is //tibco ,

where is the home directory of the user.

Limiting Access to TIBCO BusinessEvents Installations

In some enterp rises, users are given limited access to software installations, such

as TIBCO BusinessEvents. All users, how ever, require full rights to the Eclipse

installation because certain files are w ritten d uring normal u se of BusinessEvents

    Studio.

When installing m ultiple TIBCO produ cts into a single installation environmen t,

ensure that all the prod ucts are comp atible.

Set the Heap Size as Needed

By default, the in itial (Xms) and maximum (Xmx) heap size are set to 1GB for

both TIBCO BusinessEvents an d TIBCO BusinessEvents Decision Manager.Change the settings as needed to meet you r requ irements. For TIBCO

BusinessEvents, the settings are in theBE_HOME/bin/be-engine.tra file. For

TIBCO BusinessEvents Decision Manager they are in the

    BE_HOME/decisionmanager/eclipse/DecisionManager.ini file.

For example, if you w ant to ru n both TIBCO BusinessEvents Decision Manager

and TIBCO BusinessEvents on a m achine with 1GB mem ory, you m ight reduce

the initial heap size setting (Xms):java.extended.properties=-server Xms512m -Xmx1024m

As another examp le, if you u se a machine with more memory, and you w ork with

the TIBCO BusinessEvents Decision Manager heap size accordingly.

It can also be helpful to set the MaxPermSize as follows:

    -XX:MaxPermSize=128m

    Platform-Specific Settings

Some of the JVM settings do n ot work for all platforms, and some p latforms use

additional, platform-specific parameters. For examp le:

For 64 bit Sun JVM for Intel or AMD on Linu x, use

    JVM_LIB_PATH=%TIB_JAVA_HOME%/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so

For 64 bit Sun JVM for Intel or AMD on Window s, use:

    JVM_LIB_PATH=%TIB_JAVA_HOME%/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.dll

For AMD on Windows and 32 bit Sun JVM for Intel use:

    JVM_LIB_PATH=%TIB_JAVA_HOME%/lib/i386/server/libjvm.dll

The IBM AIX platform u ses param eters common to all JVMs, but d oes not u se the

-d64 parameter. AIX also uses add itional param eters (using the format,

Many of the actions you m ust take to m igrate projects to the current release

depend on the version you are m igrating from, and the features you u se.

Some m anu al steps are required. More manu al steps are required for earlier

versions than for 4.x projects due to the changes in architecture.

If you are upgrading from 4.0, first upgrade to 4.0.1 and then m igrate to 5.0.

See Migrating 4.x Projects on p age 39, and referenced sections.

If you are upgrading from 3.x, you can migrate directly to 5.0. See Migrating

3.x Projects on p age 46, and referenced sections. If you are upgrading from a version earlier than 3.0, first upgrade to the latest

3.x version, following d irections in the 3.x docum entation.

Berkeley DB OM, form erly called Persistence OM, is an older form of data

persistence and it is deprecated. If you still use it, it is strongly recommen ded thatyou m igrate to Cache OM with backing store in th is release.

There is no direct migra tion path from the Berkeley DB OM database to a JDBC

backing store. Migration is a two stage p rocedu re:

    1. As needed u pgrad e to the latest u sing the latest 3.x (or 4.x) version of TIBCO

BusinessEvents. Those versions have a u tility to m igrate the d ata to th e Oracle

    Types backing store schema.

    2. Migrate from the Berkeley DB database to the legacy Oracle Types backing

store. To complete this step, follow instructions in the TIBCO BusinessEvents

Installation guid e for the version you are using.

    3. Migrate from the Oracle Types backing store to the JDBC backing store,

following instructions in Oracle Types to JDBC Backing Store Migration on

    page 57.

    4. Migrate the project to 5.0.

If you are using the latest 4.x version, see Migrating 4.x Projects on page 39.

If you are using the latest 3.x version, see Migrating 3.x Projects on page 46.

The migration u tility au tomatically does the following:

Migrates core Coherence functions to product neutral ones A set of core functions

has been renamed (and ad ditional internal changes have been m ade) so that these

functions can be u sed with either the Coherence or the TIBCO BusinessEvents

DataGrid cache provider. The renamed functions are in the Standard catalog

Cluster.DataGrid category. See Table 4, Mapp ing of Coherence Functions to

TIBCO BusinessEvents DataGrid Fun ctions, on p age 37 for details.

A TIBCO BusinessEvents Stud io refactoring operation , and a TIBCO

BusinessEvents Stud io Tools comm and line option a re available to d o this forspecific purp oses other than general migration. See Migrating Core Coherence

Functions for the TIBCO BusinessEvents Studio option and see Migrating Core

Coherence Fun ctions at the Comm and Line for the comm and -line option, both in

    TIBCO BusinessEvents Developers Guide.

Migrates the channel driver type Driver type is migrated from the 4.0 format to the

    current format.

Migrates HTTP channel settings HTTP channel tun ing settings are now

maintained in the channel resource instead of the p rocessing u nit (PU) area of the

CDD. During th e migration p rocess, you sp ecify the CDD and w ithin it the PU

wh ose settings you w ant to m igrate. Settings from th e selected PU are app lied to

    all HTTP channels.

Migrates CDD file namespaces Nam espace is changed to the following:

    http://tibco.com/businessevents/configuration/5.0 .

Migrates entity metadata properties to CDD domain object override settings In

earlier versions, entity-specific configuration for cache and backing store was

don e using metad ata prop erties (also known as extend ed p roperties). It is now

don e in the CDD only. The migration utility moves all relevant m etada ta p roperty

settings to the equ ivalent settings in the CDD Dom ain Objects Overrides area. An

override is added for each entity typ e. You can later rem ove unnecessary entries

as needed . (There is no change to configura tion for metadata p roperties used by

the TIBCO BusinessEvents Data Mod eling add-on p rodu ct.)

Migrates localStorage Property to isSeeder property (partial migration) The

property tangosol.coherence.distributed.localstorage is migrated to the

    cache-provider-neutral property be.engine.cluster.isSeeder . How ever, a

change in design makes this property redu nd ant. Cache storage is now set at the

processing u nit level, using a checkbox labeled Enable Cache Storage. It is not

possible to set this checkbox at migration time. Note tha t w ithout fur ther action, if

th e isSeeder prop erty is set higher in the order of precedence than the p rocessing

unit, then the isSeeder prop erty is used a t run time. However, if the isSeeder

Migration from 4.x to 5.0 Automatic Migration Changes |37

prop erty is set lower in the ord er of precedence than the processing un it, then the

checkbox value is u sed. To complete migration, remove th e isSeeder property

and instead u se the processing u nit setting Enable Cache Storage in the project

recomm ended for prod uction. It can be useful for testing and dem onstrationpurposes.

Site Topology, TIBCO BusinessEvents Version Field The value of th e TIBCO

BusinessEvents Version field in Cluster Settings and in Host Settings is up da ted to

    the current version.

Adds CDD properties for TIBCO BusinessEvents Monitoring and Management

authentication, which is a new feature in 5.0. The properties are added in these

    locations:

    BE_HOME/mm/project/emonitor > MM.cdd > mm-class agent class >

prop erties > mm/auth property group

    ToBeMonitored_Project> project.cdd > Cluster prop erties > auth property group .

The properties are added to a ll project CDDs if a project has more than one. The

following prop erties are add ed, with the default values as show n:

    be.mm.auth.type=filebe.mm.auth.file.location=BE_HOME/mm/config/users.pwdjava.security.auth.login.config=BE_HOME/mm/config/jaas-config.con
