The university an- nounced its intent to return to face-to-face academic instruction. As part of its Safe School, Safe Students initiative, the university will also implement new policies to maintain social distancing and follow CDC guidelines. A university task force has been studying the spe- cific needs of Sul Ross campuses, faculty, staff, and students. The task force has also been monitoring directives from the medical community, along with fed- eral, state, and local leaders. Sul Ross will operate its fall schedule with some modifications. Laboratory and other hands-on instruc- tion will be front-loaded to take place towards the beginning of the fall semes- ter. All instruction after the Thanksgiving holidays will be delivered online. All in- structional classrooms have been modified to allow for social distancing, sanitizing stations have been placed at the entrances and exits of instructional facilities, and campus pedestrian walkways will be altered to maximize one-way traffic patterns where necessary. The Sul Ross task force and administration will continue to meet regularly, monitor the outbreak, and make necessary adjust- ments as needed to keep the university community safe. Big Bend Ranch State Park recently an- nounced the inclusion of the Chinati Moun- tains State Natural Area into its existing International Dark Sky Park designation with the International Dark Sky Association. The addition of Chi- nati adds about 40,000 acres of rugged and remote Chihuahuan Desert to the exist- ing state park Dark Sky Park designation, bringing the total pro- tected acreage of the Big Bend Ranch State Park complex to about 355,000 acres. Chinati Mountains State Natural Area is located around 25 miles north of Pre- sidio, near the inter- national border with Mexico.
