STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: Seventh NationalVoters’ Day was celebrated inGovt. Degree College Kathuato encourage the participa-tion of young voters in theelectoral process. A colourfulfunction was organised inwhich students from differ-ent colleges and higher sec-ondary schools put forth var-ious cultural items. A sympo-sium on Electoral Reformswas also organised in whichfive students share theirviews.
Deputy Distt. ElectionOfficer Chand KishorSharma welcomed the youngand future voters and otherdignitaries. The Distt.Election Officer RameshKumar in his address exhort-ed upon the non enrolledyouth to register their namesin the electoral roll andbecome a part of Indiandemocracy. New Voter ID-Card were also handed overto the newly enrolled youngvoters.
Earlier a rally was flaggedoff by the Distt. ElectionOfficer Kathua in which hun-dred students took part withzeal and enthusiasm. NVDpledge was also administeredto the participants. Amongothers SSP Kathua PawanParihar , Addl. DC DrBharat Bhushan and otherDistt Officers attended theNVD function. AAKKHHNNOOOORR: NationalVoters Day 2017 was cele-brated in Assembly con-stituency Akhnoor onWednesday at GHSS(B)Akhnoor. Number of newlyenrolled voters were presentin the function. ElectoralRegistration Officer, SunainaSharma (SDM Akhnoor)presented EPIC cards to theyoung voters. Speaking overthe occasion, she said thatthe youths are the backboneof our nation and the partici-pation of youths in democra-cy is very necessary andappealed to the youth of AC79 to enroll themselves in thevoter lists. She further saidthat objective of NationalVoters Day is to increaseenrollment of voters so as tomake universal adult fran-chise a complete reality andthereby enhancing the quali-ty of Indian democracy. Shealso explained the differentactivities completed underSVEEP in A C-79, Akhnoor.Prizes to the winners ofpainting competition anddebate competition were alsogiven.

While addressing afunction at Sub DivisionHeadquarters, SDMNowshera and TehsildarNowshera highlighted theimportance of the day andsaid that objective of the daywas to aware general massesto increase the enrollment ofvoters so that maximumnumber of voters could par-ticipate in the electoralprocess.
The SDM NowsheraHarbans Lal sharma, in hisaddress, laid stress on thevalue of their vote and saidthat voters who are backboneof democracy should exercisetheir right to vote in all theelections, i.e Parliament,State Assembly or Panchayatand local bodies' elections.

At the onset of thecelebration many a newyoung voters were handedover their new Voter IdentityCards by the Chief Guest,Additional DeputyCommissioner(ADC),Ramban, Angrez Singh Rana inpresence of Tehsildar,Ramban, Gurpreet Singh,Principal, GovernmentHigher Secondary School,Ramban, Ashok Sharma,Election Naib-Tehsildar,Hasham Din, many a teach-ers and students.
The ADC, also gave a prizeof Rs.100 each to a boy and agirl for answering the rightquestions during a brief quizrelated to the IndianConstitution held on theoccasion.
Meanwhile, the NVD wasalso celebrated at Batoteunder the chairmanship ofTehsildar,Srinath Sumanwherein as many as 800 newvoters were given their newVoter Identity Cards besidesholding an oath prominentlyin presence of Naib-Tehsildar,Saifullah Shah andsenior local officers, promi-nent citizens, leaders, teach-ers and students.UUDDHHAAMMPPUURR:: The SeventhNational Voters day wastoday celebrated with greatzeal and enthusiasm atUdhampur. Various aware-
ness programmes wereorganised by the DistrictElection cell under the theme'Empowering Young andFuture Voters' all over thedistrict on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion,District Election OfficerNiraj Kumar said that themain objective of celebratingthis day is to strengthen ourdemocratic system by creat-ing awareness among theyoung and future votersabout the importance of theirvote and hence involvingtheir greater participation inthe whole electoral system.He said that a large number
of awareness programmeshave been organised underSVEEP and the celebrationof National Voters' Day isalso one of the initiativestaken by the ECI under thisprogramme.
Chief Planning Officer ,Rakesh Jamwal, ACRSubhash Chander Dogra,CMO Dr. Chander Prakash,CEO Bishan Singh, DSWORachna Sharma , principalsof various schools, teachersand a large number of stu-dents were also present onthe occasion.
At Ramnagar, a debatecompetition was held on the
occasion of 7th NationalVoters Day in which studentsof various educational insti-tutions participated andexpressed their views on theimportance of the day. Thestudents also threw light onvarious types of forms likeForm 6, Form 7, Form 8(A)etc. Tehsidar , RamnagarRomesh Singh was the ChiefGuest in the debate competi-tion.
Later, the Chief Guest alsofelicitated the winners of thecompetition.

Event was then fol-lowed by a Pledge ceremonyin which Teachers along withthe students made promisethat they will franchise theirvote for the betterment ofthis geographically isolated,educationally backward andeconomically weaker, borderhilly belt of Rajouri withoutany consideration of religioncaste, creed, region and lan-guage. The event ended witha vote of thanks by SyedMehran.
At KKIISSHHTTWWAARR the mainfunction was held atGovernment Boys HigherSecondary School whereAdditional DeputyCommissioner Kishori Lal
distributed EPICs amongthe new voters and asked theparticipants to take part indemocratic process in freeand fair manner. He alsoawarded BLOs for their bestperformances in field.

At DDOODDAA District Electionofficer Doda Mr BhupinderKumar distributed EPICsamong the first time regis-tered voters . While high-lighting the significance of
the day the DEO said thatthe day is observed to encour-age young voters , who havereached the age of 18 to par-ticipate in the electoralprocess, by enrolling or regis-tering themselves in electoralrolls and to exercise theirfranchise.
Later prizes were distrib-uted among the winners ofPainting competition organ-ised on the said theme byElection cell Doda.
Momin Islahi of ShaheenPublic HSS was awarded 1stprize whereas Iqra Balwanand Junaid bagged 2nd and3rd prize respectively.
Besides BLOs were felici-tated for carrying out purifi-cation of the electoral rolls.

to the participants and dis-tributed EPIC's among thenew voters .
DDC while speaking on theoccasion impressed upon thevoters to ensure greater par-ticipation in the elections forstrengthening the democracyin the country. DDC alsofelicitated booth level offi-cers Qasim Ali, RameshKumar,Sohanu Kumar andVijay Kumar ,senior voters ofthe district, Shiv Ram aged98 years and Madan Mohanaged 88. Prizes were also dis-tributed among TrinayniManyal , Chetan Sharma andAnkita Sharma who stoodfirst , second and third in theSlogan writing competition.
Earlier a special enrollmentdrive was organised on 22ndJanuary at all the pollingbooths of the district while'Interactive SchoolEngagements sessions werealso organized in variousschools.
At RREEAASSII DistrictElection Officer RavinderKumar administered theNational Voters Day pledgeand distributed EPIC'samong the new voters .
Speaking on the occasion,Kumar called upon the par-ticipants to spread awarenessand educate the masses onthe value and meaning ofelectoral enrolment and itsrole in strengthening thedemocracy. .
Additional DeputyCommissioner Babu Ram,ACR Abdul Satar, DeputyDistrict Election OfficerSurjeet Singh, officers of var-ious other departments,BLOs, representative ofpolitical parties, students andlocal people were present onthe occasion. Later, DeputyCommissioner also visitedGovernment Degree College,Girl Higher SecondarySchool and some other insti-tutions to inspect variousevents and activities includ-ing training sessions, paint-ings, mock poll drills held tomark the celebration ofNational Voter Day.
Whereas, Voters Day wasalso celebrated great enthusi-asm in Tehsil Thakrakote, inwhich Tehsildar Rajesh Barumake the voters aware oftheir right and asserted intheir massive participation indemocratic process. Besideslocals, Talwara migrants werealso present on the occasion.

Theft case solved; 1 held STATE TIMES NEWS
NOWSHERA: Police on Wednesday solved a theft case by
arresting a thief and recovering stolen goods on his disclosure.
As per the details, on 24th January 2017, a lady namely
Rajni Bala wife of Bal Raj resident of Rajal Nowshera lodged
a written report at Police Station Nowshera mentioning there-
in that on 21st Dec 2016 she along with her family members
had gone to Delhi to attend the last rites of her mother-in- law
at Delhi after locking main door of her house.
On the same day during night hours some unknown bur-
glars entered into her house and stole some golden ornaments
which include two golden chains, two ear rings, one nose pin
including cash worth Rs 4,000 and an ATM card of the com-
plainant from her house. After that cash worth Rs.11,500 was
also withdrawn from the A/C of the complaint through stolen
ATM card.
In this regard a case vide FIR No. 09/2017 under section
457/380 RPC was registered at Police Station Nowshera and
investigation was taken up by SHO Police Station Nowshera
Haji Mohd Bashir.
During investigation some suspects from the area were
rounded up and during sustained interrogation one suspect
namely Mohd Rafi son of Mohd Bashir resident of Rajal con-
fessed about the theft and stolen property worth rupees
73,500 was also recovered from him.

KATHUA: Police on Wednesday arrested a car driver and
recovered 4.80 grams heroin from his possession.
According to a report, on specific information a police team
of Lakhanpur Police Station laid special Naka at Lakhanpur
and intercepted a maruti Swift car (JK01 P/8707) coming
from Punjab side.
During checking , police recovered 4.80gms of heroin from
the possession of one Daljeet Singh son of Trilok Singh resi-
dent of Langate Morh Kathua.
