Last May, Norm Lewis made history as The Phantom of the Opera’s first Afri-can American Phantom on Broadway, a role he will play until February 7, 2015.

He was recently seen on PBS with Dianne Reeves in New Year’s Eve: AGershwin Celebration and Renée Fleming in American Voices, and will beseen in the upcoming Live From Lincoln Center productions of Showboatand Norm Lewis: Who Am I? His additional television credits include TheBlacklist and Blue Bloods, as well as in his recurring role as Senator EdisonDavis on the hit drama Scandal.

Mr. Lewis received Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer CriticsCircle award nominations for his performance as Porgy in the Broadwayproduction of The Gershwins’ Porgy & Bess. Other Broadway creditsinclude Sondheim on Sondheim, The Little Mermaid, Les Misérables,Chicago, Amour, The Wild Party, Side Show, Miss Saigon, and The Who’sTommy. In London’s West End he has appeared as Javert in LesMisérables and Les Misérables: The 25th Anniversary Concert, whichaired on PBS.

Off-Broadway Mr. Lewis has performed in Dessa Rose (Drama Desk nom-ination, AUDELCO Award), Shakespeare in the Park’s The Tempest, TheTwo Gentlemen of Verona (Drama League nomination), CaptainsCourageous, and A New Brain. His regional credits include Porgy in TheGershwins’ Porgy and Bess (A.R.T.), Ragtime, Dreamgirls (with JenniferHolliday), First You Dream, Sweeney Todd, and The Fantasticks.

On film Mr. Lewis has appeared in Winter’s Tale, Sex and the City 2,Confidences, and Preaching to the Choir.

Pastor Bobby Lewis was born andraised in Portsmouth, Virginia. He isthe son of a preacher man. His par-ents, Bishop Rudolph and ElderMaurine Lewis, taught him at anearly age what it means to serve theLord. Bobby, being a gifted singer,was accepted into the ShenandoahConservatory and received his bach-elor’s degree in music education andvocal performance. Pro fessionallyhe has worked on cruise ships andin theater and cabaret venues

around the world. In 1997 he created the Bobby Lewis Ensemble. In 1998 heretired from the stage following his call into full-time ministry, and wasordained by his father at the New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church in VirginiaBeach. Since then, Pastor Lewis has founded a church in Harlem, New LightBaptist Church of Greater New York, and continues to minister through musicalong with the church choir all over the world, including performances inAlaska, Japan, and Spain.

Joseph Joubert’s credits as orches-trator, arranger, conductor, and musi-cal director include Broadway’s Violet,Motown: The Musical, Nice Work IfYou Can Get It, Leap of Faith, TheColor Purple, Billy Elliot, and Caroline,or Change. His Off-Broadway creditsinclude Three Mo’ Tenors and ThreeMo’ Divas. On television and film Mr.Joubert has worked on Smash,Nights in Rodanthe, We Shall Not BeMoved, and the 2010 Macy’s Fourthof July Fireworks Spec tac ular. His

recording credits include Fantasia’s “I’m Here” and Broadway InspirationalVoices’ Great Joy: A Gospel Christmas. Mr. Joubert has served as accompa-nist and arranger for Patti LaBelle, Ashford & Simpson, Diana Ross, andKathleen Battle at the White House and Carnegie Hall. He has receivedGrammy, Emmy, and Drama Desk award nominations.

George Farmer has performed live andrecorded with artists including DuncanSheik, Amel Larrieux, Omar, SuzanneVega, Natalie Cole, Alexis Hightower,Art Farmer, Benny Gol son, and CurtisFuller. Mr. Farmer’s Broadway creditsinclude Spring Awakening, Memphis,and Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar andGrill. Off-Broadway, he has played forSpring Awakening, Everyday Rap -ture, and Fun Home.

Born and raised in New Jersey, PerryCavari lives with his wife, Maria, anddaughter, Emily. His theater creditsinclude Big Fish, Elf, Leap of Faith,Young Frankenstein, The DrowsyChaperone, Fosse, Okla homa!, TheProducers, and Vic tor/Victoria, toname a few. He can also be heard onThe Producers’ movie soundtrack aswell as the Chicago movie sound-track, for which he composed andperformed “A Tap Dance,” which fea-tures Richard Gere.

Richard Jay-Alexander (director) is enjoying a 40-year career that has encom-passed just about every kind of job and position one could experience in theentertainment field. He studied theater, music, and opera and has achievedmany unique accomplishments, which have taken him around the world toevery kind of stage, arena, nightclub, concert hall, and studio. Mr. Jay-Alexander began as an actor, singer, and dancer and made his Broadwaydebut in 1978’s Zoot Suit. Next he was in the original Broadway cast ofAmadeus, and he quickly matriculated into a career of directing and produc-ing. Mr. Jay-Alexander is known for his work on blockbusters such as LesMisérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, and many others, hav-ing also run British producer Cameron Mackintosh’s American company formore than a decade. Mr. Jay-Alexander has directed and/or produced fortelevision, film, video, commercials, and Grammy-nominated recordings,

He has worked with many ofthe greatest stars of our time, including Barbra Streisand, Ber nadette Peters,Kristin Chenoweth, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Russell Watson, Lea Salonga, BetteMidler, Sam Harris, Il Volo, Il Divo, Chris Botti, Natalie Cole, Johnny Mathis,Betty Buckley, Ian McKellen, and many more. He is thrilled to be working withNorm Lewis as a solo artist.

Matt Berman

Matt Berman is the resident lighting designer for Lincoln Center’s AmericanSongbook. He continues his design work for Kristin Chenoweth, Liza Minnelli,Kaye Ballard, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Lea Salonga, and Elaine Paige on the road.Through his work with the American Society of Composers, Authors andPublishers (ASCAP) and several U.S.-based charities, Mr. Berman hasdesigned for a starry roster that includes Bernadette Peters, Barbra Streisand,Reba McEntire, Melissa Errico, Deborah Voigt, Michael Urie, Stevie Wonder,India Arie, Garth Brooks, Billy Joel, and Sting. His international touring sched-ule has allowed him to design for iconic venues such as Royal Albert Hall, theParis Opera, the Olympia Theater in Paris, Royal Carré Theater in Amsterdam,the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo, the Acropolis, the Taormina Amphitheater inSicily, Luna Park in Buenos Aires, the Sydney Opera House, and, closer tohome, the Hollywood Bowl, Alice Tully Hall, and Carnegie Hall. Mr. Berman’stelevision work includes Chenoweth’s recently released special ComingHome, as well as seven Live From Lincoln Center broadcasts and the TonyAward–winning Liza’s at the Palace, which he also designed for Broadway.Other Broadway credits include Bea Arthur on Broadway, Nancy LaMott’s Justin Time for Christmas, and Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony at the Belasco Theater.

Scott Stauffer

Scott Stauffer has been the sound designer for Lincoln Center’s AmericanSongbook (1999–2015); The Actors Fund concerts of Frank Loesser, Broadway101, Hair, and On the Twentieth Century; and Brian Stokes Mitchell at CarnegieHall. His Broadway credits include A Free Man of Color, The Rivals, Contact(also in London and Tokyo), Marie Christine, Twelfth Night, and Jekyll and Hyde.Off-Broadway Mr. Stauffer has worked on Hereafter, A Minister’s Wife,Bernarda Alba, Third, Belle Epoque, Big Bill, Elegies, Hello Again, The SpitfireGrill, Pageant, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. His regional credits include pro-ductions at the Hanger Theatre, Berkshire Theatre Festival, ChicagoShakespeare Theater, and Alley Theatre. As a sound engineer, Mr. Stauffer hasworked on The Lion King, Juan Darién, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Carousel,Once on This Island, and Little Shop of Horrors (Off-Broadway).

American Songbook

In 1998, Lincoln Center launched American Songbook, dedicated to the cele-bration of popular American song. Designed to highlight and affirm the cre-ative mastery of America’s songwriters from their emergence at the turn ofthe 19th century up through the present, American Songbook spans all stylesand genres, from the form’s early roots in Tin Pan Alley and Broadway to theeclecticism of today’s singer-songwriters. American Songbook also show-cases the outstanding interpreters of popular song, including established andemerging concert, cabaret, theater, and songwriter performers.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) serves three primary roles: pre-senter of artistic programming, national leader in arts and education and com-munity relations, and manager of the Lincoln Center campus. Her latest CD, Beautiful Life,was a perfectly timed Valentine’s Day release in 2014,given the sensual essence of both original songs andcovers of Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley.
