CONFIRMATION FUN NIGHT

9/12/18 The confirmation class opened this year with a hot dog roast, corn

maze, and hayride. Oh, and don’t forget the smores. What a great way to kick

off a year of serious study.

Dear Friends, As I sit here sharing this moment with you, the office temperature is a chilly 61 degrees. Fall has defi-nitely arrived! Just as the seasons change outside, the “seasons” of our lives continue to vary. Some-times we’re on the mountaintops while other times we’re in the lowest valleys. Where are you in this season of your life? Are you maintaining a satisfying state of normalcy? Well, it’s a certainty that none of us are all experiencing the same “season.” Christian author Liz Curtis Higgs is quoted as saying, “Unless we point people to Scripture, we’re giving them little more than our opinion.” Therefore, I’d like to share much more than my opinion with you. I’d like to encourage you straight from the Word of God in the midst of whatever season you are in.

Are you joyous? Read all of Psalm 100, but I’ll quote 100:2 – “Worship the Lord with joy! Enter His presence with joyful singing!” Are you anxious? Philippians 4:6 Message: “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns.” Are you overwhelmed? Psalm 61:2 “When my heart is weak, I cry out to you from the very ends of the earth. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I am.” Is your heart heavy with sorrow? John 16:22: “In the same way, you have sorrow now; but I will see you again, and you will be overjoyed. No one takes away your joy.” Do you need some encouragement? Philippians 4:13: “Christ gives me the strength to face anything.” Anything! That verse alone covers many seasons of our lives. Perhaps you’re in need of some peace? Proverbs 3:5-6 The Message “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.”

Psalm 4:8: “I will lie down and fall asleep in peace because you alone, Lord, let me live in safety.”

John 14:27: Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. I give to you not as the world gives. Don’t be troubled or afraid.”

Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Now I’ll leave you with this from the Apostle Paul: Philippians 4:7-8 -- “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” So, folks, my hope is that you’ll continue to be built up in His Holy Word in every season of your lives! Till next time,

Why We Should Give

Giving gives God the opportunity to

supply us with more to give.

God wants us to be His channels.

God’s love, mercy, and grace flow

through us. He never stops giving to

us, and he wants us to share our

blessings with others and to extend

his kingdom. Paul in 2 Cor. 9:8 wrote,

“And God is able to make all grace

abound to you, so that in all things at

all times, having all that you need, you

will abound in every good work” In

verse 11 we read, “You will be made

rich in every way so that you can be

generous on every occasion and

through us your generosity will result

in thanksgiving to God.” God blesses

us so we can be a blessing to others

through our generosity.

(More reasons next month)

Churches are sustained by the good works and generosity of their members. Without this giving, there would be no

resources for ministries, no volunteers to get things done, and no funds for heat and light. Indeed at the very heart of a

church’s existence is its members’ resources that sustain it. This generosity is imperative for any church just to survive,

let alone thrive. In many churches , however, the “80/20 Rule” prevails and only 20% (or fewer) members provide 80%

(or more) of the time, talent and treasure for the church to fulfill its mission. This ratio must be improved for a church to

thrive!

One of the roles a church must take is to put God’s call to share all of the gifts that have been bestowed upon us front-

and-center in its member’s awareness. This doesn't happen automatically. It requires consistent effort of education and

training; training to become better stewards of all the gifts that God has provided us. In Christ, we stop putting our self-

interests first and become giving and sharing people. We give because we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus

Christ. In faith, we want to give regularly, generously, and cheerfully. From Stewardship, Christian Giving: Developing

a Lifestyle of Generosity Parish Publishing, LLC

Three simple rules for Stewardship are:

1) Understand God’s bounty;

2) Embrace gratitude in all things; and

3) Give of yourself.

When we give of ourselves, we embrace gener-osity, we model Biblical giving, we inspire others and we invite others to share in the joy of giving to God and to those in need

We should always endeavor to make those who can’t be with us at church know that they are still part of us. Sometimes we find ourselves dealing with difficult and challenging seasons when it’s not easy to be out and about. Perhaps it’s due to the aging process or debilitating illness. Let’s remember to al-ways be present with our prayers, phone calls, cards, and visits. We are the body of Christ, members of one another.
