Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Powerful Learning Accountable Teaching –PLAT
In 2015, Wangi Wangi Public School embarked on a new teaching and learning program in literacy featuring
explicit teaching, sequencing of skills logically and focused lessons which will result in engaged students, high
levels of success, critical content matched to students’ instructional needs, supported practice and timely
feedback.
This initiative will continue in 2016, PLAT is an education process based upon student performance against
identified achievement benchmarks. Individual student performance data is collected every five weeks and
used to inform teaching practices.
Bushfire Preparations
Procedures have been put in place for Bush Fire Communication protocols. A Bush Fire Emergency
Management and Evacuation Plan has been prepared for 2015-2016. This ensures that we receive all
appropriate information and advice to assist us in preparing and responding to bush fire conditions. Our bush
fire response procedures have been communicated to all staff. For parents, procedures are as follows: our
primary action to follow under normal bush fire conditions is to take shelter in classrooms. We will only
evacuate once we have been given an alert from NSW Rural Fire service.
Principal for the Day
Our School Captains, Ella and Brodie, visited Morisset High this week to participate in the Principal For A day
program. All schools in Western Shores Learning Alliance (WSLA) participate in this worthwhile program. Ella
and Logan accompanied Mr Mark Snedden, Principal, to an Awards Assembly, asked many questions as well
as learning how a high school operates. Feedback from Mr Snedden was highly positive on how our leaders
led by example. Wangi’s Got Talent
Mrs Rayfield and Mrs Tarrant have been extremely busy auditioning and polishing acts for the talent quest.
Don’t forget the date Wednesday, 2nd
December at 6.30pm at 6.30pm. Come along and be prepared to be
entertained!

No, you never get any fun
Out of the things you haven’t done.
Class 5/6
Mathematics
Harry and Nathan have been working on some challenging
mathematical problems over the year. At the beginning of the
year they found the problems quite difficult, but now they are
consistently attacking and solving every problem, not matter how
long it takes them.
For those of you playing at home; here are a couple they have
solved:
In a class of 26 students, 15 like vanilla ice cream and 16 like
chocolate ice cream. However, 3 do not like either. How many
students like both vanilla and chocolate?
On a shopping trip Griff spends 1/3 of his money at store A, 1/3 of
his money at store B and his remaining $12 at store C. How many
dollars did he have at the start?
English-
Check out Ella’s Cockney rhyming passage bout the weather-
Try and read it in your head with a cockney accent.
Key-
(frog and toad= road)
(plates of meat=feet)
(north and south=mouth)
(hampstead heath=teeth)
(currant bun=sun)
(mince pies=eyes)
(brass bands=hands)
(trouble and strife=wife)
(scotch eggs=legs)
The heat from the frog scorched my bare plates. The sweat from
the top lip of my north dripping onto my hampstead. The currant
to bright for my mince pies. My brass bands are sweating from
holding trouble’s brass bands. I mean seriously, my scotch eggs
are going to fall off.
Here is Griffin’s persona poem about anxiety. It is very well
written!
Pretend Morgan Freeman is reading the poem to you to fully
capture the emotion.
I am your worst enemy. I shrink your comfort zone and make you
worry. I stop you trying new things and create barriers. I’m the
one who tells you what you can and cannot do. You try to escape,
but why even try; there is no escape from me. I make you rush to
do things quicker. I make you worry about everything. Sneaking,
hiding, I pop up every time I feel the slightest hint of doubt. You
fear me because there is no escape from, anxiety. In writing we
have been refining our techniques making sure we include time
connectives, adverbial and adjectival phrases and clauses and
figurative language.
Here is a snippet of J.K Rowling, I mean Zali’s writing:
The enormous black dog, with fiery red eyes was sprinting across
the grass when it skidded to a halt in front of a slimy, green
caterpillar. The dog’s teeth were sharp; dripping with spit and the
mangled remains of someone’s recently departed rabbit. The
caterpillar was large and the dog was glaring at it like a bone a
plate. The dog let out a booming………Wait, tiny bark. So much for
his sharp claws, black coat like death and powerful body. You
could almost hear the caterpillar laughing.

Soccer Gala Day.
We went to Speers Point for a scorching hot soccer gala
day and the boys were exhausted. Both teams were
awesome representatives for our school. One team
played a man all day and won every game. Our other
team drew a couple of games and got stronger as the day
went on. We finished with a big win to top off a great
day. Well done boys!
Bowling.
Brian from Wangi Wangi Bowling Club has been
offering his time to teach our 5/6 students the art of
lawn bowls. Hopefully we can squeeze a few more
sessions in during this busy time of year. Many
thanks to Wangi Wangi Bowling Club .
