VIRTUE OF THE WEEK: HONESTY
Honesty is being sincere, open, trustworthy and truthful.
Dear Parents and Carers, BER Project Last week I was fortunate to have to opportunity to take a tour through the worksite to look at the progress of our new classrooms. Brick work has begun on the block of four classrooms and toilets. The slab for the block of two classrooms is underway and I am pleased to see that things are progressing (albeit slowly). Schools Spectacular The 2010 Schools Spectacular performances will be held at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney on:
Friday 26 November - 1pm preview & 8pm Saturday 27 November - 2pm & 8pm.
For more information and ticket bookings go to www.schoolsspectacular.com.au Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to attend the Friday preview as part of a school excursion organised by Ms Abbott. These notes should be returned asap. Whooping cough alert NSW Health is warning parents to be on alert for whooping cough following an increase in the number of school-aged children diagnosed with the disease over the last few weeks. For more information see: https://www.det.nsw.edu.au/about-us/news-at-det/news/whooping-cough-alert Principals Conference This week Principals from Western Region met in Dubbo for a conference under the direction of Carol McDiarmid, Regional Director. Planning for 2011, Leadership, Equity and regional performance data were the focus as we look to further enhance learning outcomes for our students. Coles Sport for Schools Vouchers Last chance to hand in any Coles vouchers that you may have hiding, as the vouchers will be taken to Coles next Tuesday for counting. Thanks to all who have supported our school – I will let you know the grand total and our anticipated sports purchases over the next weeks. Bus Stop Behaviour Would you please discuss appropriate and safe Bus Stop behaviour with your child(ren) to reinforce reminders given at school? Community members have expressed concerns over some of our students who are venturing dangerously close to the kerb. Meleesa Smith Relieving Principal

VEGETABLE GARDEN CLUB NEWS THANK YOU To Mr Peters, Mrs Moulden and Mrs Abbott for their supervision over the past 3 weeks, it is much appreci-ated. GLOVES Gloves are in short supply due to the massive turnout we have had each week. If children could bring their own gardening gloves, it would be greatly appreci-ated. If you have any spare gloves at home, donations would be gratefully accepted. The gloves we have avail-able are quite small and don’t fit all children’s hands. PARENT HELP We have a few dedicated parents who have turned up each week, but we need more! If you are available to come to vege garden club on a Monday from 1pm-2pm your help would be greatly appreciated. We would love to be able to start up a parent helper roster. Please call Cassandra Jones on 6334 2304 if you can help us out every once in a while. No gardening knowledge re-quired. NEXT MONDAY Each child will be planting their very own sunflower seed in a pot which they can look after and take home over the holidays and watch it grow. If everyone could bring a 20cm diameter pot, it would be great, otherwise we have a few available to use. We will also be planting out our donated tomato and pea seedlings in our fourth garden bed. The vege garden club is very excited to report that we have 92 students signed up. Thank you to all those stu-dents who have come along. Everyone has been very enthusiastic and well mannered. It’s a pleasure to see. See you next Monday! Vegetable Garden Committee

WIN GREAT PRIZES
St Philomena’s Primary School with Digital Prints and Images in Keppel Street have developed a unique Photography Competition specifically for
children under 13, called “No Negatives”. There is over $600 worth of prizes up from grabs. The name has a dual meaning, No Negatives, not like the old days - it’s a digital competition, and No Negatives in the photography subjects, we are ask-ing the children to photography subjects, we are asking the children to photograph the positives in their work, the things that make them happy. The competition will be judged in age groups, Kinder to Year 6 and within these groups prizes will be awarded in three categories, Landscape, Portrait and What No One Else Can See. All of the Photography will be exhibited at the St Philo-mena’s Christmas Carnival on Friday, 26th Novem-ber, 2010 Entry is only $2.00 a piece Full details go facebook/No Negatives Photogra-p h y C o m p e t i t i o n o r e m a i l [email protected].
