SuppliesGone are the days when aprons were only for our grand-mothers. Now they are just as stylish and fun as any fashion accessory. Make one that’s reversible to get two

styles in one—use a sophisticated fabric on one side to wear for your Friday night dinner party and a whimsical fabric on the op-posite side to show o≠ when baking mu≤ ns Saturday morning.To create this delicious two-sided apron, enlarge the pattern pieces on page 95. Cut two coordinating fabrics as directed on the pattern, and be sure to transfer all marks. Soon you’ll be cooking up a double-duty stylish apron!

Create and attach the pockets and waistbandWhether it houses a recipe and stirring spoon or it’s simply decorative, the pocket stands out in the reverse side’s fabric. Finish the contrasting look with a decorative waistband.

CREATE TH E POCKETS. With right sides together, sew around the pockets’ edges, leaving a 3-inch to 4-inch

opening at the lower edge. Clip the corners.

FI N ISH TH E POCKET. Turn the pocket right side out, be-ing sure the corners are sharp. Slipstitch the opening closed.

SEW TH E N ECK AN D WAIST TI ES.

Fold each tie lengthwise, right sides together. Sew across one short end, pivot, and sew the open long side. Clip the corners. Using a loop turner, turn the ties right side out. Topstitch all edges except the open end.

ATTACH TH E TI ES TO TH E APRON. Pin and baste the neck and waist ties to one apron side’s right side

where indicated.

{2} JOI N TH E APRON’S TWO SI DES. Place the apron layers right sides together, sandwiching the ties between them.

When pinning, be sure the waistband edges align on both layers. Sew around the apron edges, leaving a 6-inch opening at the lower edge. Clip all corners.

FI N ISH TH E APRON. Turn the apron right side out. Slipstitch the opening closed, press, and

topstitch around the edges.

Make the ties, and finish the apronAdd neck and waist ties in the contrasting fabric. Sew the front and reverse sides together to finish your apron.

EDGESTITCH TH E POCKET. Stitching

close to the edge, attach the pockets where indicated—one pocket on each side of the apron. Pivoting at each corner with the needle down, sew down one side, across the bottom, and up the other side. If desired, reinforce the top corners with a stitched triangle.

{3} ATTACH A CONTRASTI NG

DECORATIVE WAISTBAN D TO BOTH APRON SI DES. Press under the 1⁄2-inch seam allowance along the waistband’s long edges. Topstitch the waistband to the right side of each apron layer where indicated.

Stitch the neck and waist ties, and clip the corners.

Sew the neck and waist ties where indicated.

With the ties hidden inside, sew the apron

sides together.

Use a loop turner to turn the ties right side out.

Attach the pockets.
