• Discuss SMART phrases and applicability within CareConnect

• Discuss the PMP (NarxCare) review required by Texas State Board of Pharmacy and TMB

• Describe the future enhancements for Care Connect for medical record documentation

Psychiatry – ADD and ADHD Prescribing

• Discuss best practice for diagnosing mature adults 40 and over with ADD

• Describe when Adderall is appropriate to prescribe

• Discuss the variability and pitfalls of prescribing Adderall “off label”

• Identify addictive behaviors in the older patient - the new addict looks different

• Address snorting and injecting crushed Adderall - risk for overdose

Texas Medical Board

• Discuss partnership and the process of working with Texas State Board of Pharmacy

• Discuss and describe the authority for enforcement of proper therapeutic vs non-therapeutic prescribing and required monitoring ie: controlled substance agreement, random drug screens

• Discuss what is meant by the standard of care with applicable Board rules

Litigation

• Review a mock trial video - Interrogation of a supervising physician and their Advanced Practice Provider

• Discuss the requirement of monthly meetings

• Identify the need for in-office supervision of complex cases

• Identify the need for documentation reviews and oversight

• Discuss the oversight of controlled substances and medical necessity

Innovations in Patient Safety for Primary Care

• Identify common challenges in patient safety within primary care practice settings

• Discuss interventions to engage patients and families in primary care that lead to improved patient safety

• Describe implementation challenges and successes from a National field test of interventions
