Thome HR approach
A worldwide career within the Thome Group A career path in the Thome Group of Companies offers personal as professional development which may differ from staff to staff.
A successful career in Thome is one in which both the Company as the individual takes a shared responsibility and pride to get the best out of the relationship.
We believe that with responsibility also follows accountability; we for one constantly strive to unleash the full potential of each of our colleagues – onboard as in office, all ranks told – and we encourage our staff to take the career opportunities when they surface.
A career in Thome Group is a career in an international enterprise that runs 24/7/365 with a true global reach, for one in our Head office in Singapore we have the great pleasure and honour to employ in excess of 25 different nationalities.
We believe that diversity in our HR gives us strength, better results as grants us a competitive edge. We are proud to offer career opportunities to employees of a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds.

Thome Human Element
30
THOME'S HUMAN ELEMENT ‘THE” – A CULTURE-BUILDING MODEL
embodies a holistic approach to business excellence through our people.
It's a fundamental mind-set change on how we manage human resources within
the Thome Group of Companies both onboard as in our offices worldwide.
Our ‘THE” concept was designed with one pivotal fact in view: human behaviour
is always fundamentally at the centre of business disaster, and conversely it's also
the single biggest contributor to business success.
It aims to create a strong aligned company culture and mindset which can bridge
the gaps between our shore staff and our ships, business groups, nationalities and
religions in a common drive to pursue our Thome mission and vision statement.
A Thome company culture which is strongly rooted in the principles of good
MCRM and superb HRM, creating a common path and consistency on running our
business and ensure that safety & quality is imbedded in everything that we do.
Thome Human Element
31
We believe that the secret lays in managing attitudes in order to manage risk.
It is no longer enough just to apply new procedures, introduce new systems,
fancy videos, expensive external consultants or install new state-of-the-art
technology on-board the ships we manage to achieve world-class safety
performance.
Our senior management supported commitment is depicted in our logo, as it
shows our strategy and commitment to the Human Element.
It clearly illustrates that we want safety and quality within the Thome Group
and in order to achieve this we must focus on the human element, our attitudes
and how we work together as a team.
We do this because it's good business..!!
Thome Human Element
32
In short the Thome Human Element is all
about improving Safety & Quality in the
Thome Group of companies and thereby
eliminating accidents and incidents.
Safety is important to us and we mean it
when we say "We do it safely or not at all";
because we have an obligation to bring
everyone home safely and manage the assets
we are entrusted with safely and efficiently.
We expect everyone within the Thome
Group to share the same ambition and mind-
set and thus encourage everyone, regardless
of rank, in office or on-board to take 100%
responsibility and ownership to ensure the
success of this mind-set change as the
'Thome way of doing business'.
