ISSUE NO. 7 29th May 2017
Dear School Community,
MAINTENANCE WORK IN BACK CAR PARK AND BASKETBALL COURT
The maintenance work in the back car park has now been completed and I’d like to
thank all our families for their patience with the disruption this work has caused. The two
buildings in the car park have now been connected to the storm water system.
The basketball posts and backboards needed to be replaced because of safety concerns.
This has been a much longer process than we had anticipated but the end is now in sight.
All the preparation work has been completed and we are hopeful that the new posts and
backboards will be in place before the end of this week.
ATTITUDES TO SCHOOL SURVEY Years 4 - 6 Beginning this week, our Grade 4-6 students will be completing the Annual Attitudes to Schooling Survey. This survey provides valuable information to assist us with our future planning. It gives students the chance to share what they are happy with and areas for improvement. This is the first year the survey has been expanded to include grade 4s. Students will complete the online survey during class time at some time over the next 3 weeks. We will share the results with you once they become available later in the year. SCHOOL DROP OFF AND EARLY PICK UP Please make sure your child gets to school on time by 8:55am. Children who arrive late must collect a ‘late pass’ from the office and be marked as present on the office computer system before going to their classroom. It is very disruptive for students and teachers when children arrive late. We ask that parents ensure their children are at school at least 5 minutes before school starts each day. On most school days, the first lesson of the day is reading instruction. If your child is always late to school they are continually missing some of the most important educational opportunities. SCHOOL GATES Parents are reminded the school gates are locked at 9:15am and unlocked at 3:15pm. The school gates are locked each day to ensure the safety of the children in our care. We try our best to ensure these times are adhered to. We ask parents to please be patient if we are a few minutes late in unlocking the gates in the afternoon.

PLAYGROUP—FAREWELL AND WELCOME BACK Tomorrow we say good bye to Fiona Miller who has been our fabulous Playgroup
Coordinator for almost 2 years. Fiona has become a much loved member of our TPS
community and will be sorely missed. Fiona is moving to Tasmania, with her partner
Michael, to begin the next phase in her life. We wish Fiona all the best for the future.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Mrs Barbara Sacco back to TPS. Barbara will be
taking on the role of Playgroup Coordinator as of next week. Many of our families will
remember Barbara as our long serving prep teacher who retired from teaching last year.

Lunch Time Activities On Wednesday the 24th of May, the lunch time activity was held on the cricket pitch. As
it was the first week, we played cricket. It was a very surprising game. I was so pleased
to see 15 people attend this activity. We broke them into two teams: Grade 1 and 3 and
Grade 2 and 4. The scores were more surprising than what I thought.
The scores were: Grade 1/3’s 6 runs and Grade 2/4’s 5 runs. The winners were Zahra 1/2C,
Abdulmalik 2/3M, Dion 1/2C, Yasmin 1/2C, Jackson 2/3C, Bella 3/4Y and Bond 1/2W.
On behalf of the S.L.S.T. I would like to thank Miss Henning and Mrs Di Palma for supporting this
activity.
Next week’s activity will be soccer!
EDUCATION WEEK

Children love to see someone from their family helping at school and it is also a way of
meeting other parents.
If you could possibly help weekly, fortnightly or monthly, please
contact Anne at the office on 9465 2225.
The Food Justice Truck will be in the Thomastown PS car park on
