Thoughts to Ponder:  1. In many countries, bargaining is a way of life. In      fact, if you don’t bargain it is frowned upon. Do     you enjoy bargaining? Why or why not?  2. We o#en think of bargaining with God as       something that is not recommended yet     Abraham does it boldly. Why do you think it is or     isn’t okay to bargain with God?  3. Abraham has closeness with God. God walks with       him and talks with him. When in your life have     you felt closeness with God and when have you     felt distant?

Dear Parish Family,

A few summers ago, I had the privilege to a*end a ‘Prayer

and Temperament’ workshop led by then Transi, onal Deacon

Luke Waugh (now Father Waugh, OSB).  During this class, we took a Myers-Brigg test and learned about the best prayer

style to fit our personality.  When I completed my

assessment, my type indicated a strong dislike for formal and repe,,ve prayer; but the book noted “if they have had a good

experience of this type of prayer in a faith-filled community,

they can use formal prayer with profit.” (Prayer and Tempera-ment, Michael & Norrisey, p154).  I presume I have had a

good experience since the Rosary is one of my favorite

devo, ons! Many thanks to those in the Rosary ministry at

St. John Paul II.

Although I have a strong devo,on to Our Lady, I have always

found it difficult to carve ,me out in my day to pray the  Rosary in a quiet, contempla,ve way...the way I always felt it

should to be prayed.  But we are not contempla,ves-we live

in the world, and there is no be*er place to share the grace of

this devo,on than within our daily lives, among the traffic and dirty dishes.

A few weeks ago, a friend shared with me her Rosary  devo,on and how much it meant to her. It inspired me to

begin (again) a daily prac,ce.  Soon therea#er, I found an

Instagram story -‘manyhailmarysatame’ - where the Rosary

is prayed every day at 7:45am Eastern. Last week I followed the Rosary in Spanish one day and in La,n on another.  What

grace.

Ordinary ,me provides a perfect opportunity to begin a new,

or revived devo,on.  If a daily prac,ce doesn’t fit your

temperament or schedule, perhaps you could try a nine-day  Rosary novena leading up to the Assump,on on August 15th.

The novena would begin on August 7th and end on the Feast

day.  We all have personal inten, ons, but we can also include

prayers for those on our sick list, the ac,ve military, and for the recently deceased in our parish and their families.

May you be filled with the grace offered to us in prayer through our Blessed Mother to Her Son, Jesus.

Joan Dilger
