This scholarship is in honour of Ana Sokratov, she was part of the inaugural Trust Board of Te Rau
Matatini, and renown for her leadership and advocacy for Māori with lived experience.
Purpose:
To provide an opportunity to Māori with lived experience to study a field of their choice including but not
limited to health or in academic, cultural or creative pathways.
Amount:
Degree would cover someone for the whole of the study period
Expectation of recipient:
Reciprocity was important to Ana. The bursar is expected to share their knowledge to inspire or mentor
others with lived experience
Criteria/Application process:
An application process will include the reason they have chosen their field of study and they will
demonstrate the ability to be self-directed in their learning
Te Rau Ora is pleased to offer two Ana Sokratov scholarships in 2019 for Māori with lived who wish to
pursue and achieve success in a program of study and training.
Tēnā koe e tono nei mō Ngā Karahipi 2019. Tēnā hoki koe e whai i te huarahi mātauranga hei hāpai i
a koe, to whānau, to iwi, otirā, te ao Māori. He huarahi tēnei i whakaritea e ō mātua tīpuna, kia riro i a koe
ngā kete e toru o te wānanga. Nō reira, tihei mauriora.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must:
I. be of New Zealand Māori descent;
II. have lived experience ;
III. be enrolled at a New Zealand tertiary institute in 2019;
IV. submit the application and supporting documentation on time.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
2. Additional information including missing or corrected information, must reach Te Rau Ora by
the closing date.
3. All applicants (successful and unsuccessful) will be notified in writing within three months
after the scholarship closing date.
