Welcome and Tēnā Koutou Whānau
Welcome to our 'new look'newsletter. We are constantlytrying to 'connect andcommunicate' with families ina range of different ways. Letme know what you think!
Upper Hutt School P.R.I.D.E
At Upper Hutt School we constantly talk about P.R.I.D.E. This term
our focus value is Respect. This week children are learning
and practising about moving respectfully around the school. We
are talking about moving at a sensible speed inside, outside,
moving around others and stopping at doors and gates to let
others through first and help other people get in or out. On
Monday, one child even offered to help carry some of the bags I
had in my hand wow!
This respect is great for when we are moving at school, but also
moving around our community on the footpath, at the movies
and in shops etc.

Paid Union Meeting for All Teachers and Support StaffThe Post Primary Teachers’ Association (“PPTA”) and the New Zealand Educational Institute Te Riu Roa(“NZEI”) have jointly announced planned paid union meetings during September in relation to thegovernment's proposed ‘global’ budget. These meetings are for all teachers and support staff to find outmore about the proposed model. At this stage, the unions have real concerns about the funding model. This means that on Thursday 8th September, we are asking parents to make other arrangementsfor their children from 1pm while staff attend the meeting. If this is impossible, please contact the school as early as possible so appropriate arrangements for yourchild can be made.
Making sure your child will be safe and cared for after
an emergency!

All families who have returnedtheir Form by next Wednesday will go in the draw to win a pizzameal! We plan to have a planned Reunification Practice Drill before theend of the Term which will involve our whole community. Details tocome!
Important Health Information Measles PreparednessAs you may be aware from news reports, there are currently people with measles (English Measles) in the
Wellington region. Measles is a highly infectious and serious illness. If a student or staff member is
diagnosed with measles in our school, other students and staff will be required to have written evidence
that they have either had two doses of measles vaccine (MMR) after they were 12 months of age or
doctor diagnosed measles. This information can be found in you/your child’s Wellchild or Plunket book or
from a printout from your doctor.
Anyone who does not have evidence of measles immunity will be required to stay off school until 14 days
after their contact with the person diagnosed with measles.
Our school Health Nurse can provide you with more information and answer any questions you may
have.
Your Child's Class for 2017It's hard to believe that we are talking to you about 2017 already but we are! Over the next month, staff
will spend hours looking at the best placement of every child into a new class for 2017. Our goal again is
to create the 'Ultimate' class for every child. The process we go through involves all teachers and the
children.
If you feel there is vital information that we need to know in order to best help place your child in a class
next year please speak to their current class teacher. Like you, we want the best for each and every
child.
Tough Guy's and Gals' at Upper Hutt SchoolIt was a bleak, drizzly, cold day on Thursday 4th August as 36 awesome Upper Hutt School children went
out to challenge themselves and support the amazing charity, Cure Kids. All the students were excited
and determined, showing P.R.I.D.E. as they tackled the thick mud, the dirty water, the green swamp and
the slippery hills in the rain with a smile on their faces. You guys and gals are a credit to our school and a
big thank you to the amazing supporters. Special thanks to Steph Reichardt for organising this opportunity
for our children.
