Monday
You will need to watch a short film, which introduces you to this amazing place
and some of its flora and fauna. You can find the film at:
https://www.pandorapedia.com/
This website also contains some excellent resources to help you with your
writing tasks this week.
I have also downloaded the video and saved it in this folder.
Your first task is to make a guide called ‘How to care for a ?????
This should be a leaflet or handbook with instructions for caring for one of the
amazing creatures on this planet. Use your imagination- this is all fantasy- so
nothing is incorrect!
Please include:
A description of the creature
What it feeds on
Its habitat
How it behaves in the wild
Instructions for its care
An illustration
Consider how best to set your guide out – perhaps make a quick plan?
It must be clear for your reader and it must also be correctly punctuated with
accurate spelling please.
TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY
For the next 3 days, I would like you to make a brochure for the planet. Think
back to the techniques you used for your Rocky Mountains brochures. This one
should be in the style of a nature experience- so you will need to appeal to an
audience of animal lovers, environmentalists and nature enthusiasts (think
David Attenborough Blue Planet). Use the film and/or the pictures to inspire
you.
You will need to create at least 4 different sections for your brochure.
Begin with a short description of planet Pandora including key facts
such as its size, temperature, terrain and average weather ( make these
up if you prefer)
Your writing should be in the persuasive style.
To make it appeal you need to include a range of descriptive adjectives
and adverbs to enhance your writing.
To draw your audience in, try to include rhetorical questions and catchy
phrases with alliteration and puns.
Finally, think about how to present your brochure using eye-catching
pictures and bold writing.
FRIDAY
Today, I would like you to write an account of your own experience as a day
visitor to planet Pandora.
Include detailed descriptions of what you saw, how you felt and your thoughts
and emotions as you were guided around this unusual day trip.
You can write it in the form of a timetable e.g.-
6.30am: Our space craft finally docked in the Planet Pandora main docking
station after a rather stressful 24 hour journey where we encountered a fierce
asteroid shower that caused me to accidently tip my liquidised pizza lunch all
down my space suit! I was not best pleased to be arriving at this stunning
planet smelling of pepperoni and parmesan cheese! My main concern was that
this may attract the unwelcome attention of creatures such as the Thanator
who are well known for being one of the most vicious man eaters on the
planet.
8.30 am: After a pleasant 2 hour walk through…….(describe the forests
etc)…….we stopped to sample some of Pandora’s natural delicacies: our tour
guide presented us with…( describe the planets you ate).
9.30 am: …………….and so on.
Continue with your description of your day and use the pictures and the film to
help you write an excellent recount of your day including a range of interesting
vocabulary:
Adjectives
Emotive language
Names of flora and fauna please
Cover all the senses- what you saw, smelled, heard, touched and
tasted.
Please write in the past tense and remember to spell past tense verbs
correctly!
I walk / I walked
We eat / We ate
I assume/ I assumed
It continues / It continued
We intend / We intended
