Comenius Project Sustainability at Landscore

This Semester

This semester, Team One will be

creating ‘Bug Hotels’ for the school

grounds. They will also make ‘Flower

Pot Hotels’ for their own gardens.

Team One will also be making a 2013

calendar with photos demonstrating how

they contribute to making Landscore a

more sustainable school. We will also be

holding a whole school photography

competition for children to take photos of

how they save energy, recycle or reduce

waste. The winners of this competition

will have their photos put on the

calendar. These calendars will be

presented to our partner schools.

Awards

Creating ‘Bug Hotels’ in school grounds.

Making a calendar for partner schools based on

sustainability at school and at home.

Produce an advert to promote/advertise an area of

sustainability. Adverts to be published on schools’

website for all to share.

All schools to have a restricted electricity day/

evening. Schools to share feelings/results through

letters/drawings.

All schools to complete a transport survey. Compare

results.

Each school to grow their own meal. Share recipes

with partner schools.

Children design a questionnaire, asking questions

about sustainability for partner schools.

Children to find worst example of food packaging in

their country. Compare and share results, and write

to manufacturers with ideas for improvement.

Design a solar panel device. Schools to judge each

others’ results.

Children to write a letter to local MEP/newspaper

expressing their concerns about a local

environmental issue.

Children to create a ‘painting’ using recycled

materials based on a famous artist from their coun-

try. Create an online gallery for all schools.

Children to make pledges on how they will

contribute to a more sustainable future.

Project Ideas About the Project

Countries in the Project

This is My World is Landscore’s third Comenius

Project. Our first, My Country—Our Europe began

back in 2007 and introduced the children to the

cultures of a number of countries across Europe.

Our second project, Arts in Action, concluded last

summer with a fantastic sculpture exhibition

opened by Peter Randall-Page.

This is My World will focus on sustainability in the

widest sense—something about which Landscore

has developed a bit of a reputation over the past

few years. The project is broken into four

“semesters” and each team in school will take on

the work for one semester. The first semester is

underway and Years 1 and 2 are taking the lead.

Parents of children in these classes will have the

chance to be involved.
