PARISH NEWS Dear Parishioners and Friends, Holy Week and Easter were a special moment in the life of our parish and I would like to say thank you to those who enabled it so to be. Our altar servers, trained by Marlon Hosang, so enriched our prayer. To all our altar servers, thank you so much, you really helped create the wonderful atmosphere for prayer. The Word of God was truly proclaimed throughout the Triduum and Easter, as it is at every Sunday liturgy. Thank you to our lectors who are always well prepared and thank you to Kimberley LaMarque who co-ordinates the lector program. Our Eucharistic Ministers so enhance our prayer as they offered us the Body and Blood of the Lord, they so enriched our Holy Week and Easter prayer….as they do at Eucharist. Thank you too, to Thomas Davis who co-ordinates the Eucharistic Ministers. Our choir enriched our prayer with their beautiful voices. To each of them a word of thanks and thank you to the Director of our Parish Music Ministry, Alessandro Pittorino. And a special word of thanks to Jim Trainor and the choir who make the 5:30 pm so very special not just on Palm Sunday and Easter, but every Sunday. There were many programs to be prepared and printed, many details to be attended to behind the scenes: to William Moran, our graphic artist, and Daniel Champoli, our Business Manager, a big thank you. Thanks too to our entire staff, Meg, Martha, Michael, Jose, Lucia, Francis, William Castro, Apolonio, and Jorge. In many ways you made it all possible. And wasn’t the church beautiful? Thank you Cynthia Viray, Daniel Champoli and Thomas Davis—you placed the flowers with such care. Your creativity, your sense of the beautiful, so enhanced our Easter prayer. At the Easter Vigil, our catechumens, Ryan Baker, Madeleine Barenholtz, Shafiul Islam, Jay Lee, Eunice Lu, Rosa Isela Ramirez Rosales were fully initiated together with Kelsey Cross, Christina Faurie, Jennifer Long, Jocelyn Murray, Shelley O’Connor, Ann Partlow who completed the rites of full communion. This comes after a time of intense preparation in the RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). To our RCIA team, Lea Anastasio, Deacon Scott Reisinger and Tina Silvestro, coordinator of the RCIA program, thank you. Cynthia Viray so generously shares her talents and so our sanctuary is so beautiful…the pulpit and lectern hangings, the altar covering, the kneeling cushions, the cushions all the sanctuary seats are all her work…..and so much more….thank you, Cynthia. And thank you, the people of the Blessed Sacrament for your presence, your prayer and your support. $65,251 has been received in the Easter collection, $1,239 was offered in the collection on Holy Thursday and $3,397 on Good Friday; donations offered in memory of loved ones toward the cost of the Holy Week and Easter Flowers amounted to $3,280. Again, Thank you for your generosity.

Monday, April 9, we celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation, usually celebrated on March 25, except when the Feast falls during the Paschal Triduum. This Feast honors the visit of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary

to announce that she would be the mother of Jesus. Mary’s humility and openness to God’s Word is our strength as we too strive to be receptive to God’s plan for us.

A member of the parish who had journeyed to Washington on March 24th, shared with me a reflection of her experience…….it is challenging I think….and I am glad that she approved my sharing it with you. As I do so, I thank her:

“I have been to three marches in the past two years. The March for Our Lives in Washington DC differs from the others, however. This March changed me: thousands of us didn’t walk along Pennsylvania Avenue, chanting our frustration at the status quo; instead we all stood still and listened. This was the difference: we listened to young voices, sharing their anger, anguish, sorrow, loathing, trauma at what we’re all allowing to happen again and again in elementary, middle and high schools around the country, in the streets of our inner cities, and in the quiet of family homes: deaths by gun. We listened to them, we wept with them, we sang happy birthday with them— and we heard them. Finally… What the Sandy Hook parents worked so hard to achieve, their children’s survivors seem on the point of doing.

We had a young Benetton crowd, each voice different in age, gender, color, race, income. Each vibrant story rang true, and sounded sadly similar. They have shed too many tears already, they have mourned too many siblings and friends… They addressed their own generation, again and again, whether they came from an affluent or a struggling community. “Arm yourselves with pens. Register, Educate yourselves, Vote.” Each sounded bright, wise beyond her or his age, articulate in a way that I could not remember ever being. They made me proud of their generation. They are the true heirs of the Founding Fathers and Mothers.

They were talking to their own, but we the older crowd heard their plea. “Don’t just stand there, do something!” They believe in a democracy that so many of us, adults, have given up on. Their appeals were repeatedly non-violent. Guns are death: “Choose Life,” one said. Martin Luther King, Jr’s spirit was hovering over the crowds throughout the rally. Frankly, it was the best sermon I could have heard during Lent. Repent and redeem yourselves. Act. Help us make the world a better place. Now.” May the Risen Lord bless us all and enable us to work for an end to gun violence….…The Right to life is far more important than the right to own gun! Pray for peace, Father Duffell

NOTICIAS PARROQUIALES

"¡No te quedes ahí parado, haz algo!".

Christ is risen! Raise your spirits From the caverns of despair. Walk with gladness in the morning. See what love can do and dare. Drink the wine of resurrection, Not a servant, but a friend. Jesus is our strong companion. Joy and peace shall never end.

Christ is risen! Earth and heaven Nevermore shall be the same. Break the bread of new creation Where the world is still in pain. Tell its grim, demonic chorus: Christ is risen! Get you gone! God the First and Last is with us, Sing Hosanna, everyone!
