Calling All SingersCCaalllliinngg AAllll SSiinnggeerrss

The Choir which sings at the 8:30 AM Low Mass is in need of new members. Please consider sharing your love of singing. The practice is held every Tuesday

evening at 7:00 PM and Sundays a half an hour before the Low Mass. The repertoire includes English and

Latin hymns in four parts. He who sings prays twice!

The Annual House of Charity appeal is underway. Please help Mater Ecclesiae to make our 2011 goal of $36,300.00 by returning your pledge card to the Rectory Office. We have so far raised $33,778.00 which is 93% of our goal. We need only to raise another $2,522 to receive a 10% check next year. That means we would receive $3,630 back from the Diocese. Please consider giving if you have not already done so.

Physician to Speak on the

Promise and Perils of Biotechnology Featuring Dr. Lester Ruppersberger

In modern times, developments in science and medicine have progressed with such dazzling speed that ethical examination of these advances struggles to keep up. Biotechnology has the potential to bring about great good and great evil. By example, manipulating genes at the molecular level is leading to possible treatments for a variety of diseases and disabilities. Yet this same technology also has the potential to create a veritable marketplace of procreative choices where parents select traits and features to design their “perfect” child. On another front, as infertile couples increasingly turn to in vitro fertilization, millions of “excess” or “abandoned” embryos are stored frozen in laboratories around the world. How does one navigate the waters of this potential brave, new world? Come hear the Catholic perspective on emerging medical and ethical issues such as gene therapy, the dilemma of frozen embryos, surrogacy, and help for infertile couples. Dr. Lester Ruppersberger is a board certified Ob/Gyn practicing in the Philadelphia area. He will speak in Bishop Di Marzio Hall on Sunday, May 22, from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM. He will address some of these emerging bioethical issues from the perspective of Dignitas Personae (The Dignity of the Person), the Vatican’s Instruction on the promise and perils of biotechnology. In addition to private practice, Dr. Ruppersberger is the medical advisor for the Family Life Office of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, a certified Natural Family Planning Instructor, and a Regional Director Representative to the Catholic Medical Association. He is an associate professor in Ob/Gyn at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a radio host on Holy Spirit radio. Enjoy a delicious K of C breakfast and stimulating discussion! There is no cost; free will donations accepted. To register for this event, or for more information, call Tracye at 856-816-4907.

CAP is the safe environment training program for adults who have regular contact with minors. Attendance is required in order to comply with the USCCB’s Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The policy of the diocese is that adults will attend CAP once every five years.

CAP 1 teaches attendees to recognize child abuse and neglect and how to report to the proper authorities. Adults are taught that children have the right to be safe, strong and free. CAP 1 is for new volunteers and employees.

CAP 2 is No More Bullies, No More Victims and is a workshop on bullying awareness and bullying prevention. Cyberbullying is also addressed. Both sessions are 90 minutes.

Adults must attend CAP 1 before attending CAP 2. After five years, adults have the option of attending CAP 1 again if they prefer.

The following session will be offered in

May:

DRESS CODE

We want to foster the greatest reverence and respect for Our Lord at Mater Ecclesiae. Our attire is an outward expression of our love for the Lord and shows how important He is to us. It is also a sign of our respect for the House of God. Therefore, one should always wear their “Sunday Best” to Mass: modesty, good taste and common sense should prevail. Accordingly, the following rules apply:

• NO SHORTS, EVER, FOR MEN, WOMEN OR CHILDREN.

• Women: No revealing clothing, low necklines, short skirts or bare midriffs. Please dress modestly with dignity and self-respect. We suggest that women wear a head covering.

• Men: No tattered, soiled work clothes, old jeans or gym clothes. Please wear “business or business casual attire” to set a good example for our young men and boys.
