    The vIa laser i s a refinement oflaser technology. Unlike e a r l i e r versions, the V/O l a s e r ' s powerpack i sb u i l t with a special energy capacitor(similar to those in ships ' drives)which allows i t to s tore up largeamounts of energy and then re leasethem in a s in gl e bur st .The vIa laser i s the same s ize andweight as a normal TL 9 laser r i f l e ,but i t s pack weighs 5000g . I t has a-1 DM on to h i t tasks, but has adjUStable damage and penetration. Damagecan be v a ~ i e d from 1 to 18 by changing the beam's power; the penetrationhas a base value of 6, plus one perdamage point of the beam.The V/D laser has SO energypoints , and each damage point i tshoots costs one of these. When a l lSO are used up, i t must be recharged.

    However, f i r i n g high-power beamscan be d a n g e ~ o u s to the system. Whenever f i r i n g the V/O laser , r o l l threedice. If the resul t ing n u m b e ~ i s lessthan the nUMber of damage points ofthe beam, the p o ~ e ~ pack explodes asa Tl 13 HE hand grenade. Changing the
