Questions to be answered
1. What is the relationship between a steady
increase in incomes and environmental
quality?
2. Are there trade-offs between the goals of
achieving high and sustainable rates of
economic growth and attaining high
standards of environmental quality?

Site criteria
Location of thermal power plants should be avoided within15 km of the Metropolitan cities, National parks andwildlife sanctuaries, Ecological sensitive areas like tropicalforests, important lakes and coastal areas rich in coralformations.
The site (chimney) should not fall within the approachfunnel of the runaway of the nearest airport.
Location of TPS should be avoided in the vicinity (say 7 km)of the places of archaeological, historical, cultural, religiousor tourist important and defences installations.
No forest or prime agricultural land should be utilized forsetting up of TPS, or for ash disposal.
