CASUALTYNothing can cause its own existence. If there is no first,uncaused cause of the chain of causes and effects we see, thesesecond causes could not exist. They do, so it must.

For example, a boy pokes his classmate'sarm which causes pain. When he stops

poking, so does the pain.

In order to exist, an outsidecause must be present.

In this example, the outside

cause of the pain is the boy.

It is not possible to be the efficient cause of one's ownexistence.

Example: We cannot give existence to ourselves.

All things need a cause. Life exists because of an uncausedbeing(God). The things that need an efficient cause aredependent on the uncaused being.

If there is no God who has existence by his own eternal nature,then the gift of existence cannot be passed down the chain of

creatures and we can never get it. But we do get it; we exist.Therefore there must exist a God: an Uncaused Being whodoes not have to receive existence like usand like every otherlink in the chain of receivers. - Peter Kreeft
