County Fair News….. ANIMAL HEALTH

Parents, 4-H Leaders, FFA Instructors, Veterinarians, and others can help 4-H/FFA members monitor animal health during the pre-fair months. Only healthy livestock are eligible to be shown at the Bremer County Fair and the Iowa State Fair. The fair vet has asked this year that you use your own vet unless there is an emergency and the Readlyn Vet is on the grounds. For all other issues, please call your family vet.

Non Livestock Judging

Please refer to the Fair Schedule Sheet. This year we have created a separate judging time for Clovers Sunday, July 27th from 10:00am-Noon. Your Clover Kids can come from 12:00pm-4:30pm if they choose, but please stress that they need to be prepared to wait for an open judge. The morning judges will be solely focused on Clover Kids. Swine Exhibitors will take priority at noon!

State Fair Entries State Fair livestock entries will open on June 1, and close at 11:59 pm on July 1. Log into your 4HOnline account to do these entries, print off the entry once completed and bring to the Extension office with a check for the fee. County Fair entries are paper form and available at the Extension office or http://www.extension.iastate.edu/bremer/4h. Send or bring the completed form with a check for the fee to the Ex-tension office. This entry is due June 15th and can be done nowto avoid being late.

Pictures for Non-Livestock State Fair

Instruction on obtaining permission to use COPYRIGHT materials, Includes drawn art!

Often we get “ideas” by observation of other’s works of art, crafts, recipes, etc. It is very important to give credit to those individuals or companies who have created materials, resources, logos, trademarks, photographs, etc. that you may want to in-corporate into a 4-H exhibit for a county fair. In many cases requesting permission can do this. A sample letter is located at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4hfiles/statefair/SFDocuments/SF1UseofCopyrightVI010401.pdf which you should modify to meet your particular need. This permission is needed when an item made by you is going to be on public display. Getting permission to use someone’s work often takes a long time. Act today. You will want to send two copies of your letter to the person or company from whom you are requesting permission. They will keep one copy and return the other to you. You should also send a self-addressed, pre-stamped, envelope to aid in their convenience to respond to you. Remember they do not have to grant you permission, but if you explain fully how you plan to use their work, they are more likely to grant permis-sion. It is important to remember that giving credit to someone else is very important in any area of your work. In written papers, it may be through the use of footnotes; with exhibit items, credit and permission are included in the accompanying folders. As you put your ideas together, be sure to keep a list of where you get your ideas. If it is a book, magazine, or other printed material, include the name of the publication, the issue, volume, year, and page number from which it was taken. This type of documentation supports your efforts to give credit to the original individual or source. Remember, when in doubt, ask permission. When using ideas form Pinterest be sure to site the originally person.
