All aboardEverybody pile on and lets get ready for our trip to the zoo!

welcome

Homboldt penguinHumboldt penguins can blush. All penguins live south of the equator from Antarctica to Ecuador.

African LionThe lions at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo are siblings.Lions are the only social cat species.

Siberian tigerThe wild tiger has a successful hunt of about 1 in 20 attempts. They will often make a kill and then gorge on the meat (up to 60 to 110 pounds), then sleep for several days.

Barn owlThe female owl will eat the feces of her owlets to keep her nest clean!Owls eat their prey whole and then regurgitate what they cannot digest such as the fur, feathers, and bones as pellets.

Indian peafowl

The peafowls favorite food in the wild is the snake, even poisonous ones.Peafowl run more than they fly.

Tundra Swan

Tundra swans mate for life. The tundra swan used to be called the Whistling swan because of the whistling sound that was made when wind flew through its wings.

Red panda

A female red panda can eat approximately 200,000 bamboo leaves in one day.The red panda is nocturnal, crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk) and arboreal (much of its time is spent in trees).

Asian Elephant

An elephants trunk can hold 1.5 gallons of water. An elephant is either right or left tusked. The one that is shorter, more rounded, and grooved at the tip, distinguishes this.

Thorolds White-Lipped Deer

Due to the reversal of the way the hairs lie on its rear torso, it appears that the deer is wearing a saddle.

Spectacled bear

It is the only bear species in South AmericaEach spectacled bear has its own unique set of white or cream-colored markings on its head, throat, and chest its own fingerprint.

Snow leopard

Snow leopards can bring down prey 3 times their weight, on average twice a month. They eat slowly and remain on the kill for several days.

Ring Tailed Lemur

Ring-tailed lemurs are sunbathers, sitting with their bellies facing the sun with arms and legs stretched out.Male ringtails are equipped with scent glands on their wrists which are used in stink fighting with a rival male.

Queen AngelFishThe queen angelfish has never been bred in captivity.Cases of toxic poisoning have been reported from people eating this fish.

Golden Lion TamarinGolden lion tamarins express their emotions by movements of the eyelids, ears, and the hairy adornments of the head.

Sand CatTheir furry feet leave no tracks in the sand.Their claws are very dull since they have nothing to sharpen them against in the desert.

fossaThe fossa goes down a tree headfirst like a squirrel. The fossa is related to the mongoose, but until recently, it was mistaken for a primitive type of cat.

FlamingoThe pink knob at the center of the leg is often mistaken for the knee, but it is in fact the ankle.Flamingos belong to one of the oldest bird groups alive.

The endWe hope you learned a lot on this trip and enjoyed it!
