EDITORIALSo Im back for the final Editorial of The Yuvardha Insider. After intense disagreements

within the PR team as to who gets to do the final Editorial, we decided to settle it

Yuvardha style. I beat all the girls on my team in arm-wrestling to be able to do thisEditorial (Thank God, Sanjana Sharma is not on the PR team!!). So here I am.

Yuvardha III has lived up to all the hype (created by the PR team) and has quite literally

been a thundering success. Above all it has conclusively shown people that there are

indeed rains in Rajasthan and that Jodhpur is not a desert. There were these momentary

jitters when the showers came splashing down on Day 3 and threatened to jeopardize the

entire fest, but the spirit shown by both the participants and the organizers in braving therains and going on relentlessly with the fest warrants a special mention. In a first of its

kind we saw in a duel between human spirit and nature; the former clearly trumping the

latter.

Now, lets get down to the fun part where I list down my 5 stand out moments of

Yuvardha III:

1. NLUJ v. RGNUL Basketball matchWhen the home team meets the largest outstation contingent in a sport which has

huge emotional value for the home team, you know you have a match on your

hands. And oh boy! A match it was. With the cheering turning into jeering as the

match got intense it was a field day for us with innovative one-liners and witty

come-backs becoming the order of the day. In my own humble opinion, this has

to be acknowledged as the most competitive match of Yuvardha and makes it to

this list for the intensity shown by both the sides.2. The NUJS Contingent

All the participants in the fest had a lesson or two to learn from this team. When

rest of the teams were battling it out in intensely competitive matches, these guys

added the much needed fun quotient to the fest. They were constant reminders to

everybody in the fest that what matters beyond winning and losing is self-

fulfilment and self-growth. Thank you guys for adding this dimension toYuvardha.

3. Beverages CounterWe did detect an undying enthusiasm among the boys to buy Pepsi from the

beverages stall (Read Chaandni and Shivangi) in the first couple of days. But, we

attributed the same to the heat and the weather. But, when the demand increasedduring the 3rd and the 4th day inspite of the showers our conspiracy theory was

proven correct. Must say, whoever came with this idea initially is a marketing

genius!!

4. One-LinersI personally believe that the chants and one-liners that cheering squads come up

with during fests are its high point, Yuvardha was no different. To adding RMLbefore the NLU chants from the home team by the Lohiyans to Marathi slogans

by the GLC team to washing powder Nirma the creativity showcased by the

cheering squads has been nothing short of genius!!

5. EmotionsThe wide range of emotions on display at Yuvardha was surely one of its most

distinguishing features. It is precisely an ample display of these emotions that made

every participants Yuvardha experience memorable. From that pretty girl who

stole your breath away with her sporting talents to the agony of a close defeat to

the elation of a victorious sportspersons cheering squad to the high spirits at the

after party, Yuvardha witnessed every aspect of human emotion there possibly is,

making it an extremely special and memorable 4 days in our lives.

On an ending note, this is the last Editorial that I will be writing for The Yuvardha

Insider. I just hope this endeavour started by this years PR team goes on to

become a regular feature at the future editions of Yuvardha and just gains more

popularity and readership. We have had a great time in bringing this to you;

hopefully all of you have had a great time reading this too!!

HALL OF FAME(Star of the Day)In this section we recognize the stand out performers of the day. People whose efforts

lifted their sides and have shone through like a beacon making them the mostdistinguished sportsmen of the day.

Sourish Saha and Saahil Dama(NLUJ): The deadly TT duo from NLUJ romped pasttheir opponents to win the Gold unbeaten at Yuvardha. These guys have been one

of the most consistent performers for NLUJ across sports fests and have made the

college proud on numerous occasions. Dama and Dada as they are popularly

known are the unsung heroes of NLUJ Sports and their achievements have oftenbeen overshadowed by their other glamorous sporting counterparts. We salute and

recognize the consistency with which they have been winning medals for NLUJ in

this edition.

Tomar(RGNUL): We dont really distinguish between Formal and Informal events.So our Star of the Day in this Edition is the winner of the Mens Arm Wrestling

Championship from RGNUL. This guy lost out to Vierat from NLUJ in the last

editions arm wrestling finals but made a comeback this year to claim his Gold. We

at NLUJ love comebacks and thus salute this musclemans persistent quest to reach

the top of his game- traits of a true Star.

kiya hai!. Because some of us always see the silver lining, even though the

relentless clouds clearly showed none.

The Nation wants to know(Interview)

In todays Edition we present to you not one but two exclusive interviews. First,

we catch up with Abhipsit Mishra(AB). The Sports Committee Convenor, the man

who has been right in the middle of all the action. We quiz him about Yuvardha,

Basketball, Law School and more. Read on to find out.

1. On a scale of 1-10, how much would you rate Yuvardha III and why?I'd give us a 6.5. The rains spoil the core of a sports fest; the sports itself. But, we

managed to conduct most of the events and determine the medal tally for all of

them. Plus, our hospitality, transport, informals, PR, socials and the design and

layout teams did a fantastic job. Our security team did a phenomenal job to locate

people who were unregistered and remove them from the campus and other

accommodation sites.

penalising a student for participation in a sports fest. I don't think supporting

sports participation by either sponsoring the contingent (monetary) or adjusting

tests, submissions or being flexible about attendance (non-monetary) takes much

for a university. We just deem it to be unimportant. Contrast that to a countrylike the USA where your participation with a sports team gets you credits. Imagine

that! They actually deem playing basketball as a part of your degree! There's a

reason why there is a difference in the Olympic medal tally between USA and

India. When we talk about structural or grass root changes about sports in India,

this is where it starts. You encourage college sports right now, and probably this

generation won't have a problem when their kids come and say "I want to be atriple-jumper".

5. If you could do it all over again what is the one thing you would change aboutYuvardha-III?( Except the rains!!)

Better role descriptions for our committee heads. A few grey areas about

responsibilities proved to be slightly difficult during the fest.

6. How would you rate the NLU basketball team's performance at Yuvardha III?Top notch. We had a tough first match. We won that and used the relatively easier

second match to get the point difference to be the overall top seeds at the end of

the group stages. It's easy to take away from the team's performance in sharing the

gold by saying that we didn't play the knock out stages. But we could have very

easily not won both our games or not have had enough of a point difference to

have a gold or a medal at all. We had the momentum, the defensive intensity was

there, our game rose from game 1 to game 2; we were on track. We had G-force

(Gopal), our Godfather and when he is here, our team is a very tough team to get

around. I'm very proud of our team, and our captain, Robin. No one likes to share

a gold (there can only be one). But I don't give myself an excuse when we lose; I

won't do it when we win.

7. Lastly, any words of advice for the future editions of Yuvardha?We are preparing a Core's Note which we will be given to the Sports Committee

members of the junior batches which they can keep in mind for the subsequent

fests. Primarily, the theme of my advice will be the stress on fairness, the need fordecisiveness and making decisions independent of popular perceptions.

Just as an aside, to anyone who is reading this: First, a big thank you to all the participantsfor coming and cooperating with us through the troubled rained out days. Second, a bighug to the entire PR team working tirelessly for this newsletter and the facebook+twitterupdates. Finally, the Sports Committee, Committee Heads, volunteers, the NLUJ studentbody and the Core (Musa, Anusha, JK, Rathin and Sibani), thank you so much foreverything that you did to make this Yuvardha happen.

The Nation wants to know(part:II)Now, we catch up with the man, who can be safely called the veteran of Yuvardha.

He was the pillar of the Ist Edition and returned back for the IIIrd. We chat up with

Ravikant Meena(Musa) on Sports, Yuvardha, NLU and more.

1. Cricket, Badminton, Squash or Counterstrike which one is your favourite andwhy?All these games have had a special place in my life. I started playing badminton

when I was in the 7th standard. We had just moved from Delhi to Jodhpur. I was

having a hard time finding some company. Badminton helped me in making

some good friends. I started playing Squash in the 9th Standard after I got

discharged from 1 month of hospitalization on account of malaria and typhoid. It

helped me in getting back to my normal routine.

But these games never satisfied me completely. I always wanted to become a

cricketer, so i decided to join a local cricket club. Within some time I found

myself playing at the state level and that was the time when I got admitted in

NLU. I tried everything to keep my dream alive but things did not work out.

Thereafter I found counter-strike. Now CS is not just a game. It has given me a lot

more than just entertainment. CS got me through my bad times in college. I

could take out my frustration through CS. CS also helped me in making some

good friends here. So, each game has played its role in my life.

But if I were to choose one among these, it would be cricket as I am verypassionate about this game.

2. From Yuvardha I to Yuvardha III what do you think has been the major changesin this fest?First of all I would like to congratulate all those who were involved in organizing

Y-III. It was an idea envisioned by my seniors but we were the lucky one to

organize it. Y-III has been organised on a much bigger scale as compared to Y-I.Y-I had seen participation of 400-450 students spread across 11-12 colleges

whereas Y-III has seen participation of over 570 students from 15-20 colleges.

The budget of Y-III is almost three times (9-10 lakhs) that of Y-I (3-4 lakhs). I

think Y-III has been organized in a very disciplined and organized manner which

was lacking in Y-I as we only had 20 days to organize the fest.

3. If you had to pick between the first Yuvardha and Yuvardha III which one wouldyou pick and why?If I were to pick between Y-I and Y-III, I would choose Y-III for the reason that it

had certain unique ideas that are nowhere to be found in any other sports fest in

the country. Y-III gave equal opportunity to all the teams through league

matches and professional referees. This is the first time that I have participated in a

fest in which no team was knocked out on the first day. This releases some

pressure from the participants and allows them to enjoy the event.4. What were the biggest challenges you faced during the organization of YuvardhaIII?It is very difficult to organize a fest without getting sponsorship. This was one of

the biggest challenges that we faced. Our team worked very hard to find sponsors

but even after 2-3 months of hard work, we managed to get only a few sponsors.

We really need to improve on this front.

5. Compare and contrast the administrative support between the two Yuvardhas youhave been a part of?The administration has a very vital role to play in the organization of a fest. We

received a great deal of support from the administration and they all worked veryhard to make things as convenient as possible for us.

6. How would you rate NLU's performance at Yuvardha III?Since Y-I NLU Jodhpur has always been the best overall performer. This time also

we topped the medals tally. We made to the finals in almost all the events. I

would really like to appreciate the efforts put in by the football, cricket, volleyball,

basketball and the badminton teams. They worked very hard for this fest and as aresult they were suitably rewarded for their performance.

7. Lastly, any words of advice for the future editions of Yuvardha?I wish all the best to the future organisers of Yuvardha and I hope that future

editions of Yuvardha will see more and more participation from all over India.

Yuvardha BytesWe catch up with AB and Sibani and ask them to recollect their most distinct memory of

Y-III. This is what they had to say:

Our first basketball game. It was an electrifying atmosphere. The host team(NLUJ) versus the largest outstation contingent (RGNUL) is bound to give you

that. The game went down to the wire and we won. You can't ask for much more

as an athlete.- Abhipsit Mishra (We agree!!) Being so closely involved with the organisation of an event of this magnitude, I

can't help but feel extremely relieved that we have finally concluded Yuvardha III.Yuvardha III was the result of the combined efforts and vision of a number of

people which made the fest a success in spite of the unforeseeable and

uncontrollable circumstances. In the midst of all the chaos, we managed to pull off

an event that was truly a task in itself. I have a couple of noteworthy moments that

made the fest a reality. However, there is one out of the many significant

moments that I distinctly remember. To see all the volunteers make dedicated and

sincere efforts at "saving" the fest when the raingods were clearly not on our side,

was for me the high point of Yuvardha. On the third day of the fest, when the rains

had washed out the morning schedule, it was a moment of pride to see all the

volunteers show such enthusiasm in fighting the odds that did not seem to be in

our favour. Be it about sweeping water from the mess and the courts or setting up

an instant volleyball court in the mess arc or creating makeshift food stalls, all of

the efforts showed our relentless dedication to Yuvardha. It exemplified that

Yuvardha is much more than just a sports fest. It's about "being a sport" both on

and off the field. It's about having the spirit of sportsmanship and applying it in

every situation.

That, for me, is the most distinct memory from Yuvardha III. (Atleast that is the

most optimistic way I can look at it now! :) Sibani Saxena

Down Memory Lane(Alumni Speak)

We also caught up with a few of our alumni who have closely associated with

Yuvardha in the past and asked them what it meant to them. This is what they had to

say. Yuvardha was a dream that began with a simple idea in 2009. It just started

with a few random thoughts coming together and a glimmer of hope. Four

years down the line, we are very proud to look at this event. While the sports

fests in India generally focus only on the games, what sets Yuvardha apart is its

hospitality. It is a feeling of homecoming, albeit in a competitive atmosphere.

For me, Yuvardha was everything when I started off in my second year. Puttingthose hours to fulfill a dream was a great experience and it has certainly held

me in good stead. I learnt many things and also understood the value of

networking and organising events.

As far as the quality of the games go, there is absolutely no question. We have

some of the best facilities in the country and to stage matches there gives a

sense of immense pride. What I would like to tell the juniors and those

carrying it forward is that it was baby that has grown now. It is only a question

of nurturing it further and making it a brand we all dreamt about in 2009.

Simply put, Yuvardha united us and gave the entire sporting community asense of purpose and direction. In a way, it had a similar effect on the entire

college that the World Cup 1983 had on the cricketing community in India.Post-Yuvardha 2009, the quality of sport, the belief and the will to win has

really just stepped up two-three notches. Today, for me, it is now a checkpoint

to assess the performance levels of each team or individual in their respective

sports. Aravind Mokkapati(Mokka), Batch of 2011 Yuvardha came about as a response to a simple question- why can't we have a

our own sports fest. And the level of the competition and participation in

successive editions is testimony to the success of the first edition and efforts of

every person who has contributed to Yuvardha since it was conceptualised.

I have participated only in the first edition and each moment is clearly etched

in my memory. To play before your supporters on your home ground andwinning it- few things can even match that feeling of ecstasy.- LzafeerAhmed(Lzaf), Batch of 2011.

(We would like to convey our deep gratitude to Nishad, Lzaf and Mokka fortaking the time to write for us. It indeed means a lot for us when our Alumnicooperate with us in our endeavours.)
