Year 5 Camp 2014
In Week 4, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Year 5 travelled to
Borambola (near Wagga) to attend a 3 day Sport and Recreation
Camp. We arrived at school bright and early and were very excited to
be travelling on a bus to camp. We put our luggage on the bus, found
our seats and we were off!
It was going to be a long 3 hour drive, so we had to get comfortable.
About 2 hours into the trip, we had a 15 minute stop at the “Dog on
the Tucker Box” at Gundagai. Just before we left someone fell in the
mud and had to have a quick change of clothes. We then quickly
gathered for a group photo. After another hour on the bus, we
arrived at Borambola Sport and Rec. Camp. We were told our room
numbers, then we settled in and had lunch.
Later on, we were split into 2 groups. The first group was called
‘’Toads’’ and the second group was called ‘’Donkey Kong.’’ Toads
had rock-climbing and Donkey Kong had Archery. We were at these
groups for about an hour before the groups switched activities. Later
that evening, we participated in night activities for about an hour or
so. We followed this with supper (a drink and a biscuit) then we went
to bed.
We woke up the next morning bright and early, had breakfast and
prepared for our activities. Today we were going on a long nature
walk and a cookout. Gus and Helen, our instructors taught us all how
to prepare our food and to use a “spondonicle”. This is a safety
implement used to hold hot pans a bit like a small set of pliers. We
cooked a yummy lunch which included sausages, vegetables and
potatoes. It was great.
On the way back to camp, we looked for damper sticks to cook
damper with later that evening. When we got back we had some free
time and then went out and cooked some damper.
On the third and last day, we had breakfast and prepared for BMX
and then Kayaking. BMX was great fun. If we’re really good Mr A
might organise a BMX track at school.
We then packed our gear, had lunch, and jumped back onto the bus
and drove back to Goulburn. We all had an extremely great time and
would love to go there again. Thanks to Mrs Chapman and Mr A for
organising a great camp.
