THE WHOLEHEARTED was commissioned and first presented by ArtsEmerson in April 2014. Workshop residencies have been provided by HERE, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Orchard Project, Philadelphia FringeArts, Swarthmore College Project in Theatre, New Dramatists, and JACK, with the support of the Brooklyn Arts Council.

STEIN | HOLUM PROJECTS (www.steinholum.org) is the ongoing creative partnership of Suli Holum and Deborah Stein. Drawing on over a decade of experience in both experimental and regional theatre, SHP works with a core group of designers to create a unique hybrid of the highly visual and dexterously verbal; interdisciplinary physical theater with complex and nuanced characters. Our first play, CHIMERA, was developed with a HARP residency and premiered in 2012 at HERE as part of Under the Radar, where it was a NY Times Critics’ Pick and nominated for a Drama Desk Award. It received its UK premiere at the Gate Theatre in London in 2014. Our musical MOVERS + SHAKERS (songs by James ugg and Daniel Kluger) received the Lowe Award and has been developed at UCSD,  Playwrights Horizons/Clubbed Thumb, New Dramatists, and Berkeley Rep’s Ground Floor. Our work together has also been developed at Philadelphia Live Arts, Actors Theatre of Louisville/Perry Mansfield, Swarthmore College, Kelly Strayhorn, the Annenberg Center for Performing Arts at UPenn, the Orchard Project,and New Dramatists.

THE WHOLEHEARTED was commissioned by ArtsEmerson, and further developed by Z Space, premiered at CTG and toured to Georgia Tech and The La Jolla Playhouse.  SHP and THE WHOLEHEARTED are currently supported by the NEFA National Theater Project Creation and Touring Grant.
