The authority to establish, equip, furnish, operate and maintain the public schools of the Marple Newtown School District is vested in the Board of School Directors, which is a body corporate and which is constituted and governed by Title 24, the "Public School Code of 1949", of the Pennsylvania statutes and Article III of the Constitution.

Board of School DirectorsA nine-member elected school board, all of whose members live within the school district boundaries, governs the Marple Newtown School District. The school board's primary role is to formulate and evaluate all policies needed for the operation of the school district. Directors design and set policies within the framework of the Pennsylvania School Code. District staff are charged with administering the policies in accordance with the guidelines established within. All policies must comply with state regulations and statutes.

School Board Elections

School directors are elected at-large on odd-numbered years to four-year terms. The board elects its leadership (i.e. president and vice president) to one-year terms during the first week of December. Additionally, a treasurer and secretary are elected to one and four-year terms respectively in May with each term beginning in July.
