15 June 2017 Dear colleagues, dear friends, dear fellow members of the WFHSS, The Netherlands is proud to present you the bid to host the WFHSS congress in 2019. The two Dutch associations, SVN (Sterilisation Association Netherlands) and vDSMH (Association of Experts of Sterile Medical Devices) are represented within the WFHSS organization and together we have 850 members. The Netherlands has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. Collecting knowledge for that healthcare system is for both our organizations one of the main rights of existence and we want to share this knowledge with the rest of the world. We also see it as our responsibility to help countries that need knowledge for their local situation. SVN and vDSMH aims to connect people and knowledge and every member of WFHSS and other visitors are welcome to come to The Netherlands. It would be a great honour to host the 20th WFHSS World Sterilisation Congress and let you celebrate the SVN 50th and the vDSMH 20th anniversary with us. “ Since many years The Netherlands always has been in the forefront of developments in sterile supply. It had a leading role in the compilation of the international standards. However also in the developing world it has been active for many years.

I have been assisting sterile supply departments in health facilities in a wide range of countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. I trained hundreds of CSSD staff on all aspects of the sterilization supply cycle. I have been advocating a discussion for realistic guidelines for adequate sterile supply in locations with adverse socio-economic conditions.

I compiled a textbook on sterile supply which now has been translated in 9 languages and is used worldwide. The book continues to be updated in order to follow the latest developments in our fascinating profession. I hope to discuss these items and more with you in The Hague 2019.”

Getting about by foot is easy. The Hague, from the very centre all the way to

the beach, can be traversed in under an hour.

Public Transport

Over 30 bus and tram lines will quickly and safely take you and your delegates to your destinations

in and around The Hague.

• Walking is easy, safe and enjoyable. It takes less than 1hr to walk from the city centre to the coast.

• Public transportation offers with 30 bus and tram lines a great transport network.

• Personalised Congress Cards with validity of 3 days or more can be arranged.

The HTM, The Hague public transport company, avails of a specialized Congress Card. With this card the WFHSS delegates are able to

ride on all trams and buses in the The Hague area during the conference period. With every card a city plan with the

various travel nets will be provided.

The minimal validity is 3 days at € 12,00. For every extra day € 3,50 is to be added (price level 2017). A true advantage

for the foreign visitor is the fact that he or she does not have to check in and out every time

he or she enters the public transport system.

Over 700 hotel rooms adjacent or walking distance from the World Forum, only 10 min away from the Central Station.

Historic City Centre

In the charming historic city centre of the Royal City of The Hague (10min from the World Forum opposite to Scheveningen by public transport) a concentration of large variety of hotels and hostels can be found.

Scheveningen (Beach Zone)

A large cluster of hotels in all categories is available at the seaside in Scheveningen area (5-10 min from the World Forum by public transport) or Kijkduin (10 min from the World Forum).

The Hague offers a wide variety of approximately 5,000 hotel rooms in different categories, from 2* to 5* divided over 3 areas. In addition, The Hague also features a few hostels for those people who are on a tight budget or for students who desire a different ambiance.

The Louwman Museum This venue is home to the world’s oldest private collection of cars and automotive art. The museum dates back to 1934 and now comprises of 250 antique and classic cars. The Nieuwe Kerk The Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) was built after the Grote Kerk (Big Church) was built in 1649- 1656 after the Great Church had become too small, and it is one of the most unique venues in the Hague. It is also one of the top 100 Dutch UNESCO – monuments.

As the largest coastal city on the shores of the North Sea, with an impressive third of the total surface area basking in lush greenery, The Hague has a great deal to offer its visitors. It presents a combination of historic venues and international ambience, as well as wide sandy beaches, and a massive range of cultural activities.

Historic City Centre

The Binnenhof is situated in the heart of The Hague’s city centre. It has been the location of meetings of the Dutch Parliament, the Staten-Generaal, since 1446, and has been the heart of Dutch politics for many centuries. The grounds on which the Binnenhof now stands were purchased by Count Floris IV of Holland in 1229, where he built his mansion, next to the modest lake that has been called Hofvijver or ‘Court Pond’ since the 13th century.

The Peace Palace

The Peace Palace has been the icon of The Hague for 100 years. Every day, hundreds of visitors pause at the entrance to take photos of this impressive building. Thousands of people work in and around it every day for over 130 international organisations for greater world peace and justice. This magnificent

building, which houses various international organisations, makes The Hague internationally recognisable as the city of Peace and Justice.

Panorama Mesdag

Step into the largest 360o painting of the Netherlands which was painted by Hendrik Willem Mesdag and travel back in time to Scheveningen as it was in 1881. The view is never the same; the incidence of light is more than magnificent and alternates from moment to moment.

Mauritshuis

The Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis, located at a unique 17th century palace in The Hague, has the highest number of masterpieces per square metre in the Netherlands. The museum houses a world-famous collection of paintings from the Dutch Golden Age, an exceptional display which offers an amazing overview of Dutch and Flemish paintings from 1400 to 1800, with works by painters such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, Rubens, Jan Steen, Frans Hals, Van Dyck and Adriaen Coorte.

Escher in The Palace

Museum Escher in the Palace is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the world-famous artist M.C. Escher, whose art startled millions of people all over the world. The collection is housed in the former Winter Palace of Queen Mother Emma of the Netherlands. Escher was a genius. His illustrations are mathematical masterpieces of optical illusion. In one of his most famous works, Waterfall, water flows uphill and the towers are put together incongruously.

Humanity house

Thankfully, most of us know about disasters and conflicts only from newspapers and TV.

Such events occur elsewhere in the world, far away. In its museum, Humanity House brings them nearer. Embark on a journey through the museum and see, hear and experience personally what it must feel like to have to survive in an area affected by conflict or disaster.

Sculptures by the Sea

The museum focuses exclusively on contemporary sculpture. The collected works, mainly from the second half of the 20th century, focus on the main theme ‘mankind’. The sculptures vary in size and are made by national and international, established and

The destination team The Hague will be more than pleased and proud to be welcoming the WFHSS and its Annual Congress delegates to our city. We will provide you with all the support necessary to work on a conference that will be remembered for its success.

The city of The Hague is an important partner for international conferences. It contributes proactively in several ways to the hospitality extended to conference organizers and participants.

Support by the city of The Hague for the 20th World Sterilisation Congress of the WFHSSin 2019 will be offered in two ways as discussed below.

1. Financial Support by the Municipality of The Hague.

2. In kind support by The Hague Convention Bureau:

• Marketing support: free access to The Hague online media centre and free city maps and brochures for all delegates;

• The Hague Hotel Service: contact suitable hotels for your event, negotiate hotel rates exclusively for your

conference and set up a hotel booking link to be published on your conference website;

• Delegate experience: offering a complimentary tourist information desk at the World Forum during your conference in The Hague in 2019;

• Offering discounts with KLM/Air France on flight tickets (Tariff-reduction of 5%-15%) on all available booking classes;

• Introducing the organizing team of WFHSS to experts dealing with VAT issues and VISA related processes;

• Organizing accompanied site inspections by offering a tailor made program that suits the needs of your organizing team;

• Introduction to local meetings industry and service suppliers and assistance with tender processes to subcontract event aspects to these suppliers;

• Attendance building: offering a complimentary promotion booth including staff at the preceding WFHSS Congress 2018 to boost The Hague attendance and answer all questions your delegates may ask.
