Street Soccer 945 Street Soccer 945 is the first year-round soccer program for those struggling with homelessness and poverty in the United States. It uses healthy living, support from a community of teammates, and mentoring relationships as key ingredients to achieving life goals and overall well-being. Soccer has proven to be a remarkable tool for delivering these elements to people caught in the trap of homelessness. For more information on how to get involved. visit www.streetsoccer945.org or email Jonathan George at [email protected] Hope Teams Hope Teams, a partnership with the W.I.S.H Program, are groups of 4-6 people within Watershed who provide mentoring friendships to a family in transition. A Hope Team provides relationships, encouragement and emotional support to families transitioning out of homelessness and moving into a more self- sufficient life. Hope Teams require a short training and a 1-year commitment from each team member. For information on initial Hope Team training dates or to learn more about the program, circle the icvon on your connection card or email Jamie McCollum at [email protected] 3.20.11 The Catapult Project:: supporting a neighborhood school so that it can soar Current Justice Opportunities:: GreenHouse :: Giving :: Blocs :: (see back for meeting times/contact info) News :: Current Series :: Self-Sabotage and the Avoidance Thereof We believe that our children are our biggest investment, and our best hope for the future, and so we dedicate much of our time and energy to providing an environment where kids can grow, play, make new friends and develop a spritual foundation for their lives. Many of our “issues” sometimes seem to resurface even after we thought that they had been dealt with. Our habits, tendencies and inclinations can often be painfully cyclical - we sometimes find ourselves in the same boat over and over again - and at times it can get just plain frustrating, but the cycle doesn’t have to continue. Let’s head into Spring with some solid introspection, and start zeroing in on the facets of our focus that have the potential to undermine the identity God longs for us to have in relationship with Him. Her:Gather :: game night The Her:Gather bloc will be getting together on March 23rd for a game night - take a night out during the week to have fun and relax after a busy workday, and make some new friends in the process. We’ll be meeting at 7:00pm - contact Rachael or Ashley for more info or with any questions, or to let them know if you’re coming (see back of Weekly for contact info) When: Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:00pm Where: 2700 Flintridge Dr OnRamp OnRamp is a Bloc for those new to Watershed that would like to learn more about our community and what makes us tick. It’s a 2-week Bloc led by co-pastor Scott Hofert where you can expect to meet new friends, discover more about the history of Watershed, and learn about who we are and what we value. Circle the icon on your Connection Card to sign up - child care is available, please notify us in advance if you’ll need it. Next meeting: April 3rd at 9:00a Where: Amelie’s French Bakery (2424 N. Davidson) The Orange Room :: for moms and young ones These days it seems as if there are kids everywhere, and we’re excited to have so many new young ones on the scene! If it is necessary for your child to remain with you in Transit, consider taking advantage of The Orange Room should your child become restless or noisy. The Orange Room (located near the entrance to Greenhouse in the lobby) is equipped with comfortable seating, a speaker so that you can still listen to Transit, and privacy to allow you to manage the needs of your little one free of distractions or limitations. GreenHouse :: volunteer opportunities While Transit is going on at Center Stage on Sunday mornings, our kids are having an incredible experience in GreenHouse. We believe that our kids are our greatest resource and biggest investment in our future. GReenHouse currently needs one more all-star volunteer to complete their team in Club46, our 4th - 6th grade classroom. If you’ve been looking for a fun way to serve that can also make a huge impact in a child’s life, contact Kayla George ([email protected]) or circle the GreenHouse icon on your connection card. Watershed Podcast :: keep up with the discussion Visit the “Podcast” page on our site or search “Watershed” in the iTunes store to download our Podcast. It’s a great way to keep up with the discussion by catching up on weeks you may have missed, or by revisiting a talk that resonated with you. iTunes users can “subscribe” to our podcast to download automatically; Windows Media users can download the files straight from our website in mp3 format. Baby Dedication :: May 8th We believe that our kids are our best and brightest resource, and our greatest hope for the future - as such, we’d like to hold our next Baby Dedication in May (for kids from birth -2 years). We want to come together as a community to celebrate the new kids in our Watershed family, commit them to the love of Christ, and to encourage our new families to see parenting as a divine responsibility. If you would like for your family to be a part of our next Baby Dedication on May 8th, circle the icon on your connection card for more information. PrimeTime :: lunch after Transit Prime Time is the bloc for those who may be young at heart, but consider themselves more mature in age and stature. While the majority of “Prime Timers” range between 50 and 70+ years of age, younger attenders would never be turned away. (As long as they think they can keep up!) Our next meeting will be Saturday, April 9th at 6:00pm; we’ll be sharing dinner and some good conversation. Contact Pam/Gene if you’d like to come, we’d love to have you join us! (see back of the Weekly for contact info, or circle the icon on your connection card) Blocs :: micro-communities that meet during the week Our community is made up of smaller groups (called “Blocs”) that meet at various times/locations during the week. Some Blocs meet periodically; others meet regularly and require a small commitment. All current Blocs are listed on the back of the Weekly - if you see one that sparks your interest, contact one of the Bloc Leaders (see back for contact info), or circle the icon on your connection card and one of the leaders will contact you to give you more details and let you know how you can jump in.
