today.
It was the companies flagship product, and acted as only a
browser.

5. Google Docs obsoletes programs such as Microsoft Office and Open
Office.
Google is the platform for these,which is different to
Office.
6. Firefox and Internet explorer are browsers, meaning you have to
search yourself where you want to go.
Whereas google has many applications and can be used as a sort of
OS. This is an example of using the web as a platform for many
apps.
7. Mozilla Sea Monkey
Web-browser, advanced e-mail, newsgroup and feed client, IRC chat,
and HTML editing made simple -- all your Internet needs in one
application.
Sea Monkey is an open source application, which increases it as a
platform.
8. Steam is a good example of web as a platform. Instead of having
the games on Hardware, such as CDs, you download the games straight
onto your computer.
9. BitTorrent is an example of cloud computing which is a file
sharing tool that enables users to download from multiple
sources.
10. Flickr is a popular file sharing tool which utilize cloud
computing by enabling its users to share and embed their
photographs in various forms of social media, i.e. Twitter.
11. Amazon.com the international online retailer, have large store
houses which emphasises The Long Tail effect of holding large
amounts of stock, as compared to a high street retailer.
12. Server rooms
There are huge servers that hold vast amounts of data that is saved
online.
These are called server rooms.
They hold all of our Facebook photos, all our Youtube videos and
all our Google docs.
They can be used as a way to back up our data, and if any of the
servers go down they have failsafe systems that means you wont lose
your beloved pictures.
