GOD’S DELIVERANCE Psalm 54 David to plead for God's help. His
despondency has turned to triumph. His
declaration, "He has delivered me from all
trouble,". David doesn't know how or when
God will act on his behalf; nevertheless, he
writes with complete confidence,
For He has delivered me from all trouble,
And my eye has looked with satisfaction upon
my enemies. (54:7)
According to 1 Samuel 23:26–29, God
intervened to protect David from his enemies.
Saul went on one side of the mountain, and
David and his men on the other side of the
mountain; and David was hurrying to get away
from Saul, for Saul and his men were
surrounding David and his men to seize them.
But a messenger came to Saul, saying, "Hurry
and come, for the Philistines have made a raid
on the land." So, Saul returned from pursuing
David and went to meet the Philistines;
therefore they called that place the Rock of
Escape. David went up from there and stayed in
the strongholds of Engedi.
Suddenly, perhaps as soon as David said, "I
will give thanks to Your name, O LORD, for it
is good" (Psalm 54:6), the enemy turned tail for
home, removing the threat of immediate
danger. Furthermore, David said his eye could
now look "upon my enemies" (54:7). The
NASB inserts the phrase "with satisfaction" to
bring clarity to this Hebrew idiom. David's
choice of words reflects a man without
bitterness. He could look his enemies squarely

in the eyes without malice or resentment. He
had released them to God and God had dealt
with them in His own sovereign, perfect way.
Let's declare war on those longstanding habits
we cultivate against others—negative feelings,
unforgiveness, resentment, competitiveness,
grudges, jealousy, revenge, hatred, retaliation,
gossip, criticism, and suspicion. Let's leave this
rugged, ugly, well-worn road forever! The only
alternative route to take is love. The longer I
live and the more time I spend with the Lord
(and with others), the more I am driven back to
the answer to most people's problems: sincere,
Spirit-empowered, undeserved love. It's called
living by grace. Once Christ is in full focus, it's
amazing how powerful love can be!
God’s deliverance doesn’t always match our
expectations:
• Sometimes He removes us from a difficult
situation so we don’t have to face it anymore.
This is the solution we all want, but it is not His
only method.
• At other times, He may choose to strengthen
us through our hardship. Our circumstance
doesn’t change, but He sustains us in it,
enabling us to trust Him each step of the way.
• Finally, God may give us eternal deliverance
through death. Paul said that departing and
being with Christ would be “very much
better” (Phil. 1:23), yet this is often the option
we dread most.
You can trust the Lord, no matter how He
chooses to deliver you.

UNIT II: Preparation for Deliverance
A Plague of Blood
Lesson Text: Exodus 7:14-24 Golden Text---"Thus saithe the Lord, In this thou shalt know that I
am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand
upon the waters which are in the river; and they shall be turned to
blood" (Exodus 7:17).
The divine pollution of the Nile would create tremendous hardship
for the Egyptians, if only for a short time, and it would be a
testimony to the power of the Lord. It would also strike a blow at
Egypt's religion. The turning of the river to blood would demonstrate
how powerless these false deities were, for they would be unable to
reverse the plague or give relief. The Nile, the source of life for
Egypt, would be turned into a source of death.
Finally, we get a glimpse of how the common people of Egypt
responded to the plague of blood. All the Egyptians dug near the
river desperately looking for water to drink. It seems that
underground water was not polluted, but it required considerable
effort to obtain it. Pharaoh was adamantly opposed to Moses. His
pride would not allow him to acknowledge the Lord and His
authority, even when he witnessed a miracle that directly insulted
his own gods and brought suffering to his people. The turning of
water into blood was a significant starting point for God's judgments.
The Egyptians not only deified the Nile River, but they were also
dependent upon it for sustenance of life. As God prepared His
people for deliverance, He struck the first mighty blow at the heart of
Egyptian life. When God sends you, He goes with you and directs
your path.

My Body, My Temple FALL SAFETY TIPS
As The Word says, to everything, there is a season. Shorter
days and cooler nights mean it’s time to take some steps around the house, and within your family, to keep yourself and
your loved ones safe during the transition to winter.
Here are some smart moves to make now to ensure family safety:
Dress kids in light-colored clothing to help drivers see them on
their way home from after-school activities. During outdoor activities, make sure your kids can be seen. Give them a
flashlight and glowstick, and add some reflective stickers or
tape.
Change batteries when you “fall back.” Smoke alarms most
often fail to sound an alarm because of missing, dead or
disconnected batteries. Replace the batteries twice a year
when you change the clocks (or whenever the alarm “chirps,”
indicating the battery is getting low). Also change the batteries in your CO detectors.
Practice your family fire escape plan before the weather gets
too cold. Every family should have one, but just one in three American households do, according to the National Fire
Protection Association. Having the plan is important, but it’s
just as critical to practice it by conducting a home fire drill at
least twice a year. Frightened kids may be tempted to hide under the bed or in a closet during a fire unless you teach
them exactly how to escape.
Use space heaters safely. Remember to keep combustibles
“three feet from the heat” or “a meter from the heater.” If you’re using a fuel-powered heater, open a door or window
slightly to allow fresh air to circulate. Remember to turn off
your heater if you leave the house and before you go to bed.
Add outdoor lighting to dark places. These lights serve a dual
purpose: discouraging intruders and protecting against falls.
Motion sensor lights are most important around doors and
near steps.
Clean leaves out of your gutters every week in the fall. When
you do, make sure you’re using the right ladder for the job and
using it properly. More than 90,000 people get emergency room treatment for ladder-related injuries every year. If the
gutters are hard to reach, install a leaf guard to keep most of
the leaves out.
Have your chimney inspected before the weather tempts you to use your fireplace. If you use your fireplace every year, you
should have the chimney cleaned every year to prevent a
chimney fire. If your chimney needs repair, don’t try to do it
yourself; this is a job for a professional.
