The Vega Enterprise USPS 621160 OLDHAM COUNTY, TEXAS 75 CENTS Thursday, June 3, 2021 Vol. 72 No. 48 Class of 1981 Class Reunion Planned The class of 1981 is planning a 40 year class reunion the evening of August 14 at the Oldham County Country Club. If you are interested in attending, or assisting with the planning, contact Sheila Scott-Halsell, through Facebook or messenger or email your contact info to [email protected]. Everyone who was in the class from kindergarten to graduation is welcome to attend. Avenue of Flags The Milburn - Price Culture Museum will be displaying the Avenue of Flags. The museum will place over 180 US flags along US 385 and Route 66 within the city limits of Vega. There will be at least 6 flags per block (3 on each side of the street) on our main east-west and north-south highways through town. Anyone has the opportunity to sponsor a flag or flags at $25.00 per flag per year. The flags will be put out this year at Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Main Street Parade route for Roundup, Labor Day and Veterans Day. Please consider sponsoring a flag or flags in honor of a Veteran, a loved one in the service, law enforcement, emergency services personnel. This is such a beautiful way of decorating our town during these holidays and at the same time honoring the service of our loved ones past and present. Patriotism is an important part of our culture. Please consider being a part of this flag service. Checks can be mailed to the Milburn - Price Culture Museum at P.O. Box 377, Vega, Texas 79092. Thank you for your continued support. Food Pantry Open Monday, June 7, 2021 Vega Food Pantry serves the people of Oldham County at the Methodist Church in Vega. Pantry will be open Monday, June 7 from 10:30 to 12:00 for food distribution. We will be open for filling out shopping list in person. Please come to the fellowship hall at your appointment time. You may call 806-267-2441 for more information or an application. Community Vacation Bible School At the Baptist Church – Adrian, Texas June 14 – 16 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Light meal will be served Join us “In The Wild” Bring all your Friends!!!! 3 years through 6 th Grade Oldham County Memorial Day Service Held Even though the chilly wind and drizzles continued on Monday morning, Oldham County’s Memorial Day service hosted by American Legion Post #168 was once again as nice as ever. Breakfast was held before the service for Veterans and their spouses and widows at the First Baptist Church in Vega. Music was provided before and during the service by the Golden Oldies, Gerry Ingram, Deb Reed, John Paul Gilter, and David Whitten. The program was opened with the Posting of the Colors by Gary Moore and John Webb followed by the National Anthem lead by Gerry Ingram. The Invocation was lead by Reverend Brian Hevrin of the First Baptist Church of Vega. The crowd was welcomed by Bruce Voyles and patriotic musical selections were enjoyed as presented by the Golden Oldies. Veteran Escorts Rick Brainerd and John Webb escorted Dorothy Brainerd, widow of Richard W. Brainerd as all were honored with the Laying of the Wreath. “Amazing Grace” was presented by Randy Cassetty on the bagpipes. A very wonderful and informative message was brought to the crowd by veteran Karl Barfoot of Vega as our guest speaker and his words were followed by “Taps” by Randy Cassetty. The Benediction was given by Reverend Ed Powers of the Vega United Methodist Church and following the service, lunch was provided by all the churches in Vega at Christ Community Church. Our departed comrades from 2019-2021 include: Howard Engle, Eugene Fangman, Hayden Willhite, Kenneth Williams, Harry Whaley, Larry Pridmore, Al Peters, Dick Brainerd, Lee Ayres, Odel Price, William Fontaine, Jack Funk, James Peach.
