How the Program WorksUBC Sauder brings the modern business world to life in the classroom with our innovative curriculum and the “flipped classroom” approach, where essential knowledge is delivered outside the classroom and class time becomes a staging ground for active engagement.

Thematic Courses At the core of the UBC MBA are five critical business themes:

• Creativity • Decision Making • Global Issues and Macro-Economics • Ethics and Sustainability • Leadership Development

These themes are also taught as Thematic Courses and you’ll build an understanding of everything from accounting to marketing to finance.

Featured Thematic Course: Creativity

Creativity isn’t just for the creative. It’s essential that those in every industry know how to unlock it, express it and foster it. Whether you’re generating groundbreaking ideas or cultivating the creative potential in others, understanding the process is critical to navigating today’s business environment.

Career Track CoursesTo delve deep into your area of expertise, you can choose one of three career tracks: Finance, Product and Service Management, or Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Looking for a broader range of courses? Tailor a custom career track to your interests. Featured Course: Tech Entrepreneurship

Maybe you want to start your own tech company. Or maybe you just want to better understand what it takes. In this course, taught by UBC Sauder and the Faculty of Applied Sciences, you will evaluate market opportunities, develop a business model and ultimately pitch your startup to venture capitalists.

CapstoneUse your business knowledge and leadership abilities to solve an industry case study in this two-day business simulation. This is a final opportunity to apply your learning and demonstrate your new skills in a competitive learning environment.

Kerry MinailoUBC MBA Class of 2017Project Manager at Hungerford Properties Vancouver, Canada

Considered one of North America’s most diverse schools, we take pride in our global perspective on business. That’s why we offer numerous opportunities for our candidates to gain international experience.

12

Your Global Journey Starts Here

Tapping Into Our Unique AdvantageKerry's UBC MBA experience started in the classroom at our Vancouver campus, but extended far beyond, allowing him to develop a truly global mindset.

During your time at UBC Sauder, you'll have unparalleled access to immersive study abroad options through our global partnerships. The UBC MBA offers three global learning opportunities: International Business School Exchange, Global Network for Advanced Management and Global Immersion.

International Business School ExchangesDuring his exchange at IE Business School in Madrid, Kerry got an international take on business concepts and customs.

While pursuing a UBC MBA, you’ll have the opportunity to study at one of our 34 global partner schools around the world, with no extra tuition cost. Take on new perspectives and absorb different cultural approaches to business.

Global Immersion Experience (GIE)As part of the Global Immersion Experience hosted by Tokyo’s Hitotsubashi International Corporate Strategy Graduate School, Kerry and his fellow MBA students advised a Japanese tech startup specializing in artificial shooting stars.

A key component of the UBC MBA, the GIE allows you to go abroad and consult for a pre-selected overseas company on a real world business challenge. The 5-month experience begins at UBC Sauder with an introduction to the business practices and customs of your host country. Then, once abroad, you’ll consult with a local company’s management team and help them solve some of their unique business problems. The GIE locations for 2019 will be Santiago, Tel Aviv, Berlin, and Hong Kong.

Global Network for Advanced ManagementDuring GNAM’s Global Network Weeks, Kerry travelled to Istanbul’s Koç University where he focused on global strategy frameworks.

UBC Sauder is the only Canadian school in the Global Network for Advanced Management, a prestigious collaboration of 30 graduate schools around the world. While students are not guaranteed a spot in GNAM, those who participate, like Kerry, travel to international universities, tour local businesses and meet with local business experts. Plus, students can take online courses offered by schools in the network.

Vancouver, Canada Madrid, Spain

Tokyo, JapanIstanbul, Turkey

After working on a tech startup in Japan, learning different business customs in Spain, and exploring global strategy frameworks in Turkey, Kerry Minailo amassed extensive international experience during his UBC MBA. Collectively, these enriched experiences helped him land a key role at Hungerford Properties in Vancouver.
